For Pandora

Lamorak, while not quite well, is finally fed up enough being still that cabin fever has set in. So he convinces himself that it's a good idea to go retrieve his sword. He leaves a note in his room, should Percy or Dinadan stop by, saying not to worry, he's gone out, but he's being very careful. He doesn't know much about vampire lore, but he ( Read more... )

Pandora kept his sword and shield safe - and well tended to. They are safely stowed in her room, in a place where people will not access them. Clean, furbished, with care that is now getting close to expertise with the training Celebrimbor gave her, Lamorak's gear is waiting to be returned to its rightful owner.

She's been trying to find a way to contact him - and since this seems to be the time, she will be on the way, closer to the Mansion than to Peredur's home.

"You need not fear me, tonight." Her voice is very gentle, very quiet.

His shoulders go tense, but he wills them relaxed a moment later. "Oh?" he asks, quiet. His hand rests lightly on the knife, but he doesn't draw it.

She does not move any closer to him, her voice still quiet and sober - she's used to keeping a low level, since the elves have heightened senses.

"I would not..." she pauses. "The beast which attacked you is not here."

It is quiet, so deathly quiet.

"It was a creature of circumstance, and it took away my reason. I was enchanted, after a fashion - a dire price for a day of humanity. The beast would have anyone pay for it. It was coincidence which placed you in its wake." There's palpable regret in her words, and she's just about to blurt it out.

"And your offer to turn me into a creature like yourself?" low.

She winces. "Misplaced regret, mayhap, when reason returned. I would not do it against your will."

"I suppose I should thank you, for that."

"It is merely the lowest of courtesies, sir," she murmurs softly. "Do you forgive me?"

He is quiet a moment. Then he says, quietly, "Do you know what happened to my sword and shield?"

"They are in my care. Shall I fetch them for you?" Equally sober, equally quiet.

"If you would. And we shall leave it at that, perhaps." He's not angry, but he clearly isn't ready to trust her again as yet.

"As you bid. I will return anon." She goes, then, and will be back about another 15 seconds later.

"Thank you. For keeping them."

She hands them over, respectfully - hilt first for the sword, buckle up, for the shield.

"It is as it should be. The sword sings true, the shield is stout." She pauses. "Was there aught else?"

If Lamorak examines his gear, he will find that it has been cleaned and sharpened with smith's care.

"No, I do not think so." He pauses, then says, "Everyone thinks it was a wild animal, that attacked me. I have no plans to disillusion them."
