Wick's Picks

The NBA season has gotten underway, which is raaaaaaaaaaaaather amusing. On the other hand, it's probably not the best for my studies. Considering that I'm far busier this year than last, I must generally attempt to spend less time on the NBA . Nonetheless, one couldn't resist making some amusing predictions.

The loss of Big'un Ben was unamusing, certainly - as you will recall, I was rather dismayed. However, we're not losing anything on the offensive end, and while the defense may not be as good, Rip, Chauncey, Tay, and Sheed are still ALL among the best defenders at their positions. The same can't be said, unfortunately, for McDyess and Mohammed, but their play will lead to an increase in scoring from the five. Flip Saunders (not the member of the organization I have the most confidence in, it must be said) is more of an offensive-minded coach, anyway. I don't think the Pistons will win as many games as they did last year, but they certainly won't be less than half as good.

The Bulls certainly looked skilled against the Horrid Heat, but they have since lost two straight. They'll be good, but they've got to work in a lot of new characters, many of whom are young'uns.

In any case, I recognize that my picks are made with my biases in mind. The Pacers and the Lakers, for example, were on the bubble for my predictions of who will make the playoffs. I easily could have chosen the Pacers and not the Bucks, or the Lakers and not the Hornets, but one is not so fond of either the Pacers or the Lakers, so I left them off.

The Jazz are another example: the decision about whether to predict that the Jazz would make the playoffs was made a lot easier by the fact that I disapprove of the Jazz.
