A conference of mishaps and other good things

The conference was a success. It succeeded in inspiring, knocking bits loose and reconnecting with the greater creative energy.

When I got home I sat with my dear roomies over dinner recounting my favorite Tomie dePaola stories from his keynote speech and other small things.

Such as attending a professional manuscript critique with my fingers smeared in neon blue food coloring as a result of first-grade oobleck experiments gone slightly awry. While I like to think it mattered not a whit, one roommate was a bit aghast, though the other insisted it gave me kid-cred. Frankly there wasn't much that could be remedied with the limited cleaning utensils on hand, so what can you do?

Then of course there was the bit of a matter on my way home - specifically the "confusing" bits of Route 2 with a proper interstate and thus driving a bit too speedily for a 55mph area resulting in a ticket from an officer who was ultimately very friendly about it. Secretly I think if he wasn't wearing a uniform, and if he had some good tunes, a bit of sudden sunshine and an open road, much like I had, he would've been breaking the law a bit himself. Alas.

I'm rather excited about the idea of putting some of the content I've been using for school to use, be it in the form of magazine articles or non-fic books.

And - as if the damned thing needed another re-write - I've had a marvelous idea for the structure of TGET.

Finally, I spent some of my spare time at the NESCBWI conference planning my summer writing goals. I will not write in Maine. But I aim to get my word-count up significantly and - if the muses are kind - finish something!

And now - at 11:11 - it is bedtime.
