Long update of DOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

So, now that I'm done for the day... I can take a break and relax. bobwaldo1 is off doing super-secret greek things, and I'm covering an hour or so in the computer center for the person they have kidnapped to do horrible things to... I think it involves some type of odd adornment....

Anywho...

I just read a meme in lordandrei's journal that has me all curious. Basically he took 20 people from his Friends List and wrote a couple of things about his thoughts of those people, with no indication of who he picked. As one of his other readers pointed out, he had 269 people on his Friends List, so it could be really hard to figure out who he is talking about... So, of course I'm curious if I still made enough of an impression on him to warrant inclusion, but I doubt it since it's been so long since we've seen each other... I might try that meme, it's just wierd to realize I actually have more than twenty Friends, so I could do it... hmmmm.... requires some thinking...

So, let's see... what have I been too busy to talk about...? The interview with the Port Authority went well yesterday, even if it was for the wrong division. I was interviewing with Leong, who is some one I worked with in the Computer Center for two years before he graduated. It was a little wierd seeing him again in that capacity. Basically what we discovered during the interview was that he was not the person I needed to talk to, and that I shopuld sign up for the next set of interviews. He also said he would pass along my resume to the proper department. bobwaldo1's interview for their environmental division went really well, too, and I think he may just get over this gloomy "I'll never get a job" thing that has been infesting his thinking for a while now.

Today, myself and three other members of the Concrete Canoe team mixed five batches of concrete for testing in four weeks. We took one and a half hours to mix five samples, instead of and hour and a half to mix one sample. Yay for smaller sample sizes! My volume calculations were right on (well, actually is was a spreadsheet Megan made up last year), and we had very little waste. I still need to type the actually mix data into the spreadsheet to figure out the miscellaneous ratios we need to pay attention too. It's all well and nice to design a perfect concrete mix, but the actual amount of each ingredient in the mix is needed in the end. We didn't have any new people, so I didn't need to give the "Microballs are not your friend" speech. I had it all prepared, too. Microballs, for those who don't know, are what we use as the bulk of our aggregate for concrete. Normally, concrete had course aggregate (gravel) and fine aggregate (sand). Since we are trying to mix very light-weight concrete, our course aggregate is sand and our fine aggregate is Microballs. Microballs are little glass bubbles filled with air. They are very tiny. Think confectioner's sugar, with no internal friction. The powder pours like a liquid, and the instant you open the bag, they are up in the air and everywhere. Think about it: tiny glass bubbles up in the air for you to breathe in.... And yes, the bubbles can break. It's not fun stuff to work with....

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! Gloat time. I had my dance practice last night (with a mini psychodrama, but that is for another post...)after two rehearsals for the play. I send out my dance announcement to my dancing email list, which includes the local chapter's mailing list. Some one sent this back to the Whyte Whey (Manhattan) email list in response:

A totally unsolicited testimonial:

I can't dance, having misplaced my knees several eons ago, but I went
to dance practice last time, and just watched and listened to the
music.

Aife is one of the best teachers of anything I have ever seen. She's
gentle, kindly, patient, funny, and I had such a good time watching
her dancers practice. And the dances all are relatively easy to learn.

If you're thinking about it, I'd recommend turning up.

Elianne

Cool, huh? I was so pleased when I read that. I was worried that she's been bored at that practice, since I didn't spend much time talking to her. (We had a blind person show up to dance that week, so most of my attention was on her and how to make it so she could do most of the dances...) We had a very large practice (5 evenly matched couples!) last night, and I'm wondering of her testimonial had anything to do with that....

[/gloat]

The first week of play rehearsals ended today with my assistant director finally showing up. Most of the rehearsals I've scheduled conflict with his class schedule, so he hasn't been able to go to many of them. He's annoying. I'm not sure what else to say about that, but he has this attitude of "I know this information that you obviously don't, so I must inform you of it", even if it is a kind of common-sense thing. But he's so polite about it, like he genuinely wants you to understand this thing that you already know. He told one of the actresses today before rehearsal that she shouldn't isolate herself and she should join the conversation. She look at him, then me as though he were insane and then informed him:

"But I'm not isolated."

"But you are standing by yourself, away from the group. I did not want you to feel left out."

"I don't feel left out, I'm reviewing my lines. It's easier to do that if I'm standing over here."

"Ahhh... I see... Is there something I can do to help? Should I get you a chair? I do not want you to be uncomfortable standing."

"No, thanks, I'm fine where I am."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes, thank you."

"Truly? There is nothing I can do?" etc. I eventually had to call him away so he would leave her alone.

Isn't he so polite and helpful? GAAAAAAHHHHH!!!

I went to the Greenmarket again today. I bought:
a pint of heirloom black cherry tomatoes
a quart of concord grapes (which are currently doing interesting things in my locker...)
two apples
a pint of these little fruits that look like a cross between a tomatillo and a cherry tomato (they have this papery husk around them, like a tomatillo, but they are very small and kind of a yellow-orange color. They are rather sweet and kind of taste like pineapple...)
a pint of apple cider

I probably spent too much money... I also bought a pommegranate from one of the corner fruit vendors. It probably isn't ripe yet, but I couldn't resist...

I need to fill out the forms for the FE Exam registration. There are a lot of them... Some I need to fill out and some the administration offices need to fill out others... And all needs to be mailed by November 1...

OK... so after a long conversation with another denizen of the computer center and magically fixing an email problem over the phone for an administrator... I think it is time to end this entry.

Later. :)
