I think I'm going to try to be better at this blogging thing....mostly to blog about wedding planning. So here is my first wedding planning entry....which will involve some catching up (because I haven't mentioned anything about it yet! haha).
The first thing I did was go dress shopping. Right after the 4th of July weekend, my mom, Joan (my maid of honor), and my cousin Tori (one of my Jr. Bridesmaids) went to David's Bridal here in Altoona to look for a dress. I honestly didn't expect to find my dress that day. I had looked on line, but I hadn't tried anything on, and hadn't been shopping in an actual store yet. I have to admit, I was truly shocked to find (and fall in love with) a dress.
This dress was similar to the very first one I tried on. The bottom was the same, but on the first one, the top was plain. This one has beautiful beading. It has a corset back that I am going to lace up with ribbon the color of my bridesmaids' dresses. It's a shade of purple which David's Bridal calls "lapis" (that's a short a sound, like in cat.)
Moving on from there, it took Scott awhile to understand the importance of booking a place in advance. I moved my thinking from a June wedding because there were no June 2010 dates available at the first places I looked (The Ramada Inn & The Casino at Lakemont Park). We really liked the idea of having the wedding and reception in the same place, and we want to do an outdoor wedding. My friend from high school, Kasey got married at a place called the Marrara's Mountain Lodge. I checked out the website and thought it would be ideal. When Tony, the owner of the lodge, was showing it, Scott & I went to check it out, and he was really impressed. Based on the dates they had available, I had scheduled a tentative date for August 7, 2010. Once Scott saw the lodge, he agreed! So that is our official date. I still haven't called to make it an official date, but even if someone else calls for that date, Tony will let me know and we will have a week to make a decision.
When I first got engaged, the first thing I started looking for were bridesmaids dresses! lol I thought I had found the perfect one. It was tea-length with a jeweled detail at the waist. Then, when I found my dress, the consultant had Joan & Tori try on these bridesmaids dresses that mimick the pickups at the bottom of my dress. The difficulty came when they didn't have the Jr. Bridesmaids dress in lapis. On Saturday, Tori & I went to another store and found the perfect dresses for her and Amber. (Since Tori can wear adult sizes and Amber can wear adult sizes...but, like, a zero...and children's sizes, I didn't want to have to buy a $150 dress in a size 2 for Amber and add straps AND have it altered to fit her...mui expensive). Their dresses will be pink (because I can't be sure that I can find a shade of purple to match lapis somewhere else), the dress is also knee length with a haltertop, and still has the pickups. I am so excited that this is finally in place. Lastly, Zoe's flowergirl dress will be white with pickups like mine and a plain top with spaghetti straps. She will have a lapis sash around her waist. I am putting the links for the bridesmaids dresses and the flowergirl dress here. (I don't have a picture of the jr. bridesmaids' dress. I'll have to see if I can find something like it somewhere...)
Bridesmaids' Dress color is lapis
Flowergirl Dress sash is lapis
I am currently trying to figure out the caterer to use, among other things. More to come!
