Camping day 1

Jul 11, 2007 15:02

Well, we're in beautiful Hamlin Beach State Park, right on the shores of Lake Ontario.  Of course we didn't get out of the house on time, but it wasn't too bad.  Mark wanted to leave by 10, we left slightly after noon.  Not bad for us, and there was really no rush.

My car was LOADED!!!  I forgot how much crap 16 pounds of baby needs for a 5 day vacation.  But we loaded up and hit the road.  Traffic wasn't too bad, and it took us about 4 hours including lunch and baa baa stops at pretty much every rest stop.  And that's the last time I have coffee before a drive like that  :O

Set up went pretty quickly, but I realized that in making sure that I "consolodated my stuff" (Mark's quote) and had enough to keep the baby comfortable in all types of weather, I had left my "cold weather pile" on my bed.  So I had no heavy blanket or long sweats.  At first I wasn't too worried, as we're coming off a week of beastley hot weather, but it soon got obvious that it was going to be cold and damp.  I froze my buns off.  There was a little rain, just enough to make things damp but not soaked.

When we finished setting up, we were pretty hungry.  We went in search of some groceries and decided that we'd rather grab a quick bite than have to go back to camp and cook.  Found a great pizza place that also serves GARBAGE PLATES, a Rochester specialty.  Chowed down, then headed back to camp to sleep.

So ends day 1.  To be continued .....
