OK, it's really Crock Pot Thursday morning ... couldn't miss American Idol last night to see who was in the finals:
I'm posting this one after some contemplation. The recipie looked wonderful, but came out NOTHING like what I was expecting. I figured that the sauce would be very thick, which it wasn't. But the flavor was very subtle and the pork was about as tender as I've ever had. So if you're looking for really saucy bbq, this probably wouldn't be a good choice. I also used pork chops rather than ribs, don't know if that effected the sauce at all. I'll definately be trying this again with ribs. And I'd highly recommend making the sauce and using it on grilled stuff - it's fantastic.
BBQ Pork Ribs
3 - 3 1/2 lbs. Pork short ribs ( I substituted pork chops)
1 c. ketchup
1/2 c. finely chopped onion
1/4 c. packed brown sugar
1 T worchestershire sauce
1/2 t. chili powder
1/2 t. liquid smoke
1/4 t. garlic powder
1/4 t. hot pepper sauce (Durkee's or Tabasco)
1. Put ribs in crock pot
2. In a small bowl, combine remaining ingrediants and pour over ribs
3. Cook 5 - 6 hours on high, or 10 - 12 hours on low
The recipie also says that when the ribs are done, you can skim the fat off the juice, pour the juice into a pot, and simmer the sauce over the stove until it thickens to desired consistency - recommended 5 - 7 minutes. I didn't try this - but it may solve the thickness issues of the BBQ sauce.
