bring back the Civilian Conservation Corps!

Last week, Ron Judd in his Trail Mix column in the Seattle Times made a very persuasive case for bringing back the CCC. It's a win-win all around: There are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of infrastructure projects in the National Forest Service and National Parks Service backlog, and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people out of work at the moment. How easy would it be to funnel a teeny fraction of the bailout package toward job creation?

This week, Judd followed up on the idea, which apparently is popular with lots of people, including US Representative Jay Inslee. I'm very excited to think that for once, a great idea may actually get implemented.

Of couse, I'm hopeful that lots of good ideas will get implemented now that a person with brains is taking over the White House.
