After writing a rather in-depth letter of interest to the Field Museum this week, I think I have a pretty good notion of the direction of my thesis. This article made me realize that my attitude toward the stranger forms of Westernized body modification is changing on account of my research. I can't help think that, well, it may be odd to some, but at least it's something they are developing on their own, without misappropriating motifs that they do not fully comprehend, from a culture they do not belong to. This is new Westernized culture, ala cyberpunk, and I highly approve of the thought:
