From the awesomest Labor Day Party ever!
Talk about the hostess with the mostest! Alana had a major HUGE vat or platter of BBQ and fixin's coming at you from every side for all the hours of the party. It was like some feudal bacchanal! Pure perfection in party-throwing. Seriously, y'all. Ridiculous and yummy and perfect. BRING SOMETHING?! No need. She had literally thought of everything for everyone including the children and their DOGS.
When I die I want to spend forever at one of her parties.
I met a young woman there I hope to call my soul's sister. Mary. To explain her would do her an injustice, but she just may be my soul's comfort and an exercise in the way to the peace I seek....we all seek. Harmonious and non-judgmental and fulfilling until I move on....which I HOPE won't happen for many years....lol. She's a Mormon....HA!!!!!!!!! KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ANYWAY!
My favorite part of the BBQ came early. Carlos and Paula and I and Jason were standing and sitting around talking and a few moments came when we were all talking together in a kind of short-hand of gestures and looks...because we were in the company of, for lack of a better term, outsiders. We were looking and grunting and gesturing and half-speaking sentences that NO ONE other than us could ever understand. And I realized and thought with great pride, humility and love that THIS was my family. Then Clara arrived and SHE slid right in with us like a cousin we all missed so much.
It was a beautiful thing. I adore these people.
You know who you are.
