Planned Parenthood is seeking your support in
sending a message to your senators to support the confirmation of President Obama's nominee for secretary of health and human services, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Senators opposing abortion rights are expected to oppose Sebelius' nomination.
Sebelius has been governor of Kansas since 2002, and has vetoed anti-abortion legislation in Kansas four times. According to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment statistics, the number of induced abortions in Kansas declined 12.6 percent from 2001 to 2007, as compared to only an approximate 7.6 percent decline nationally from 2000 to 2005, the year of the most recently available and reliable statistics. Her administration attributes the decline to health care reforms that Sebelius initiated, including "adoption incentives, extended health services for pregnant women..., sex education and... a variety of support services for families."
