Yesterday was supposed to be one of the best days off ever.
I haven't worn a bathing suit in 4 years due to poor body image, but bought two cute ones on sale from Fashion Bug. I don't look any slimmer. I'm the same person in the mirror that I was a year ago, the difference being that I now love the woman in my reflection, belly, butt, thighs and all.
I relaxed outside, drinking coffee and reading a book. I fell asleep in a sunbeam, woke up and jumped in the pool with Heather, and polished off the day with Old Forge style pizza that I missed (sorry Chicago! I totally loved your pizza, too).
Then I got the phone call from the Hyundai dealership. The transmission is shot again. Third time in as many years. The extended warranty on the car as well as the warranty on the transmission that was just replaced in AUGUST expired just over 2,000 miles ago.
We still owe money on the car, enough that trading it in is not a viable option. With its history and current state of being fucked, we obviously cannot sell it for what we owe.
We cannot afford another car loan on top of the one we're paying.
The car is not worth sinking money into, but it's our only course of action shy of torching it and trying to claim the insurance. (I'm kidding. Maybe.)
Waiting for a phone call on the price of a remanufactured transmission. Will also get a quote from our local mechanic. But a transmission is a transmission.
Either way, the cost will be our entire house downpayment. It took me ten minutes just to type that sentence and everything it destroys.
P.S. No, not covered under any lemon law. The three transmission replacements have to happen within 1 yr/12,000 miles to count.
