A few days ago I both watched and read Watchmen (long story; multiple flights). I found it to be flawed yet compelling and enjoyed the universe and the themes it built up. Was it wrong of me to start crushing on the actor playing Danny (Patrick Wilson)? I thought he did a wonderful job.
That first love scene was cheesily set up but mesmerizing once it got started. I've got to say it's the most erotic scene I've seen in a movie since...well, I dunno, I don't really see a lot of movies and that's not really the point. Point is, I thought his gasping "oh" when he got straddled was pulse-racingly awesome but what really slayed me was when his shirt was pushed off his shoulders, revealing...a semblance of a real person. Ooooh my gosh. Contrast this with Love, Actually (hey, maybe this is that earlier example I was trying to think of) where the American takes her devastatingly attractive colleague home and they're making out and it's super hot and he rips off his clothes to reveal...a ripped body straight out of an Abercrombie catalogue. It was like cold water - I still remember how repelled I felt and how my friend immediately started drooling double-time and moaning over how incredibly hot he was. I'm sure part of the appeal in the Watchmen scene was just how zomg wonderful Danny was, but I swear, the not-Hollywood-perfect body just put it over the edge and made everything much more real (and thus hot). I have seen time and time again that I'm more viscerally attracted to imperfect bodies. Would the scene have been even hotter if they hadn't had a Hollywood-perfect woman opposite him? Hard to say; honestly, I wasn't watching her at all :$
This is why my Draco will always be on the scrawny side and will never get a Quidditch-toned body. This is why my Neville will always carry a few extra pounds and never reach his ideal weight. (NiteOwl!Wilson as Neville = *faints*) This is why my Ginny is headed straight towards her mother's shape and my Pansy has small breasts and no ass. This is why I just hate characters being described as physically perfect in fanfics, even PWPs, independent of the insecurities that sort of thing causes. Imperfect people are interesting, and I find them way hotter than the Edward Cullen types who you know have to spend all their free time working out.
Lest you think I'm trying to convey how not-shallow I am to you, let me add that everyone in my word has perfect shoulders. On this I will not compromise!
