I would call this a darkish Hermione-centric story that focuses on her morality, not the goody-Gryffindor side of her but the side that will break any rule for the greater good. Harry is very ill and Hermione goes to unheard-of lengths to help him. This requires a deal with the devil, aka Malfoy. The story is compact and complex, with larger-scale morality also being explored, namely the relations between Muggles and wizards and what steps wizards should be taking to protect their culture. It's a really engaging read.
