I went to see the fantastically amazing RYAN ADAMS and the Cardinals at the Bama Theatre in Tuscaloosa on Thursday night. I even got to stand right next to him as he walked into the venue (he couldn’t stop for pictures, but it was a neat experience to be so physically close to the man I consider to be my generation’s most talented musician - I told Erek later that I’d had dreams "where Ryan impregnated me from further away than that").
The seats were reserved (it wasn’t general admission), and ours were good, but when he came onstage for the second set and said that anyone who wanted to come stand next to the stage was more than welcome, I was one of the first down…and got to stand literally three feet from where he was performing the second half of the show. Oh, and as a bonus: the first song in the second set was my favorite R.A. song, "Rescue Blues," so I got to rock out super-close to him. It was amazing.
Of course, I regretted my choice of shoes (super-hot knee-length black faux suede boots with 3-inch heels), but it was so worth it. If you want to hear the entire concert (you can even download it!), go
here. You can also see more pics on fb.
My weekend was mostly spent being lazy. It was glorious.
I did, however, have several important conversations with Keith. We talked for over two hours on Friday night (after which my phone promptly died), and he asked me if I would still like him if he didn’t have hair. I asked him where he’d gotten such a crazy idea, and he said that he went through my picasa and found a picture of Pete Yorn and me, and the caption was, "look at his amazing hair." "I started thinking, y’know, my hair looks a lot like Pete’s. Is that the reason you like me?" I couldn’t help but laugh. Then today, while I was in church, I sat behind a bald man and while I was doodling on my bulletin, I began to write haikus about hair loss. I sent them all to Keith (they were in the vein of "I care about you, not your hair") and he said he appreciated them. I will post them, as well as Keith’s "response post," below. Enjoy.
#1: "like vs. love"
like your follicles
hair today, gone tomorrow
love your personality
#2: "you only love me for my bushy head"
i do not love you
but i love your hair, my friend
(just) kidding, mr. shank*
*the "just" adds an extra syllable, but you get the idea
#3: "my favorite of the haikus i wrote today" OR "the least shitty haiku i wrote today and for which i hope my dear friend keith will forgive me"
i love the bald man
where his hair once was is now
a blank piece of Heaven
#4: "nothing will stand in my way"
closer to your brain
no hair to stand in the way
closer to your heart
and now for Keith's...
"The Jenny Email Analysis"
love, forgive, heaven
churchworthy words that you sent
shitty is not one
