So it's been almost 24 hours since I've brought my Wii home.
There wasn't a lot of fuss last night at Gamestop. The manager let us in early and we all set around playing Guitar Hero on PS2 and Mario Kart on DS. When midnight finally came I got to be the first one to check out so I can offically say I was the first in my city to have legal ownership of a Nintendo Wii. =D
As far as the pack in title goes, Wii Sports to me was meant to not be an offical "game" per se, but more or less be somewhat of a demonstration of what the system could do and what games in general for the system would be like. That being said, they are pretty good multiplayer fun and the boxing one can be a bit of a workout. From a single player standpoint, this title will get boring pretty quick in my opinion, but the party atmosphere of playing tennis and bowling I could see people playing for a long time to come.
Excitetruck I haven't played a whole lot, but the fact of if someone will like this game or not will depend upon how they view the game. To me this is not supposed to be a racing simulator, it is designed to be an arcade racer. That being said, at times driving can be pretty damn chaotic to the point you think the best thing to do would be just to hang on for dear life and see what happens. I don't feel as though it will have a lot of replay value, but seems like it will be fun in the short term.
As for Twilight Princess, I haven't played this enough yet to say a whole lot. The graphics are pretty good and from what I've read the controls make it pretty easy to get into. I'm sure I'll be hooked the first time I wield Link's sword and shield with motion capture technology.
So on the Wii in general, it is definately a big risk on the part of Nintendo. In one way, people are going to experience games on a whole new level and there will be a lot of people drawn in that may have never been interested in games before just because of how much interactivity there is. With that said, there will be a crowd of gamers that think the controls are just a gimmick and would rather just sit and play via hitting buttons instead of swinging and ducking. This does seem more like a system for a party atmosphere though, playing arcade style games with several friends crowded around in multiplayer. However, it is still a hell of a lot of fun.
