Erm... I seem to have misplaced my laboratory, and the entire Vatican along with it. Unless I'm very much mistaken--and I seldom am--this isn't anywhere I've read of, and it's most certainly not anywhere I plan on staying.

The bulk of the natives look decidedly unfriendly, although one was kind enough to direct me towards this machine. It seems to ( Read more... )

Good to see you too. You alright?

Van Helsing! Where are you? How long have you been here? You're armed, aren't you?

Breathe, Carl. In order.

  • Looks like a market, or town square.
  • Long enough. I met Dracula.
  • Everything we had leaving Transylvania.

Stay there. I'll come find you.

I am breathing. Really! I'm not entirely incompetent.

Dracula?! Where? How angry is he? Have you seen any werewolves that we--no, just get here as fast as you can. Believe me, I'm not going anywhere.

Halfway incompetent?

In the graveyard; I don't know where that is from here. I've never seen this place before. "Very angry" works.

Near the fountain, you said.

How did you get here?

...

Hopefully, it's a very long ways away. Yes, just past it. It's the building with the glowing sign; even you should be able to find it without much difficulty.

If I knew, I'd be trying to get back. Van Helsing, these people think they've met me. I haven't been missing for any length of time, have I...?

I see it. I think.

You're asking me, Carl?

Dracula was taunting me like he always does. He didn't tell me anything new before I jumped on him.

It was worth a try. You do occasionally know something.

You JUMPED on him?! What are you think--no, you're not thinking at all, I know you. And you're still mobile? He didn't break every bone in your body?

Thank God

Not where memory's concerned. You must be desperate.

I did. He pinned I don't want to talk about it.

He's lucky I let him go with that.

I am, believe it or not. I seem to have some sort of amnesia myself.

Yes, well... you're almost here, aren't you? I'd rather be found by you than by him.

...Didn't know it was catching. Sorry.

[chooses that moment to stride into the building, crossbow cocked, appearing none the worse for wear, save covered in dirt and grass stains]

Some choice.

[*abandons the relative safety of a corner table to all but launch himself at Van Helsing, shuffling to a halt before colliding with him*]

It's not contagious. I have my own theories regarding the nature of--well, you won't understand them or listen to me, anyway. ...Did you break any weapons? I can't fix them here, you know.

[Raises eyebrow, slinging crossbow across one shoulder]

No. Weapons are fine.

I won't be doing that again soon, though.

[winces, looking him over - satisfied]

You're not hurt.

What won't you be doing again? Breaking my inventions? I should hope you'll avoid that, since there's little enough I can do to fix them at the moment. Or perhaps you'll avoid provoking Dracula for a few moments?

No, not yet, I'm not. I would assume you are, though; you can't very well start a fight with Dracula and walk away unscathed.

I'll try. No promises.

He started it If he stops provoking me first.

It's not too bad. I'm more worried about how we're going to go about killing him.

It's not a matter of who provoked whom, Van Helsing. Starting fights with powerful vampires is bad.

By "we," I certainly hope you mean "you." I'll help, of course, but I'm not about to storm into yet another ominous castle. Insofar as killing him goes, I'd appreciate it if you would avoid becoming a werewolf. We need to consider this city's laws, as well. Some places frown upon killing, you know.
