Is there a day that goes by here without explosions, destructive mishaps, or murders?  Really.  A truly unique curse would be one that prevents everyone from being absolutely mad.

On the topic of curses... that last curse rendered me just as monosyllabic as Van Helsing.  At least it was relatively benign and dry.  No one died though, did they?  ( Read more... )

death, doom, you are all insane, curses

Ah.

Carl.

Are you feeling alright, there?

Yes, of course, absolutely. I don't see why you would think otherwise.

Oh, I don't know.

You've got an interesting subject matter? What's wrong, the curse hit you too hard?

Not as hard as it hit others, I don't think.

The City makes me think (which is absolutely never a good thing, I promise you). Isn't it odd how casually death is treated here? "Oh, I've died! Don't worry, I'll be back in a day or so." I don't understand it at all. I wouldn't like dying all that much, even if it was only temporary.

You're right, we're pretty casual with it here.

I guess that is the fact that we get a lot of "colorful" beings here, using that term loosely, that have no real moral grounds, and do lash out at others. But, you know, the fact people are capable of coming back here from the dead or die here and come back alive, in a sense? Is why we're so used to this place and death. It is almost a form of adaptation.

But there is a fact some of us have experienced death and loss before we've arrived here, so we've gotten...

Numb to it. Numb to any real mourning or grief.

Is there ever really a point at which you become numb to death? I've seen a bit of it myself, but it never seems to become any less disturbing or terrifying.

Of course, you're likely made of sterner stuff than I. ♥ Everyone takes to life differently.

Ah, well. If you're exposed to it an early age, yeah, you do become numb to it.

But that can vary, there's still disturbing things out there. I guess that depends on the person and where they're coming from.

Aheh, that's true. You're not involved in any activities I jump into. Matter of fact, you're lucky.

Incredibly lucky, yes--and very good at avoiding danger when possible, and running away from it when necessary. I think those are both skills that most everyone I know could learn and improve on.

True, that. You don't always have to be a blunt force to be successful.

Or you know the saying -- the pen is mightier than the sword and all of that nonsense.

I don't know. In a situation that involves swords and pens, I think the sword might be infinitely better off... especially in this City.

Maybe.

But you still get by, right? You're not a fighter and you seem to be in good care.

Oh, I get by perfectly fine. It's only a worry, and an unfounded one, at that.
