OMG!!!
You did not just do that!!!!!!
OMG!!
Wow. I wish I could leave a voice comment to this so you could hear what I was shouting at the computer.
Good stuff.

PS. somone's bound to complain you didn't warn for character death (not me, I like the surprise, even if my shreiking at the computer scared the cats)

Like me. I found it hugely upsetting, and while I defend somehowunbroken's right to not warn, it means that this journal is added to my list of "do not trust, never read this author's works again". :(

I'm sorry you feel that way.

No offence but I just don't get your thinking. You don't mind watching TV shows where they could kill off a character any epsiode without warning (unless you read the spoilers) and continue to watch it after that episode..? Especially "Sunday" where Carson dying was such an utter shock, I was speechless, and I am assuming that you still watched the show and you read fic about it (about "Sunday"). Yet you can't trust the author because she didn't put in a character death "warning"?

I don't get it and I'm not, like attacking your right to do that, but I'm just pointing out that maybe you should cut the authors some slack when it comes to that.

No offense taken, I don't mind you asking. To answer, yes, I *will* stop watching a show if they kill off a main/recurring character without warning. That's why I'm very into reading spoilers for shows I watch, and often don't watch a show until it is off air and canon is closed. I did not watch any SGA until this year, in fact, and was very familiar with Carson's death. I have yet to see that episode, and probably never will.

I don't have to cut the writer any slack because it isn't her fault (that is, she's done nothing wrong to cut her slack for), it's MY hang up, but it is a pretty big issue for me due to my own experiences with loss and grief. So my attitude is more about going our separate ways; she does not want to warn, and that is her right. I *need* warnings for character death, and so it is my right to not read stories by writers who refuse to warn for it. It makes me sad that a good writer (such as somehowunbroken) would rather lose readers than put in a warning, but that is her creative choice. I also wish my brain ( ... )

Thanks for not taking offence :) I like to think that I am a pretty open-minded person but you have made me realise I've got a long way to go. You have opened my mind up a little bit further with this insight so thanks for sharing also when you didn't have to. I have my own understanding with grief and loss so I get where you are coming from. It's not a hang up or anything like that. If it causes you pain and problems in your life I hope that one day you will find peace and may be free of the grief one day. Don't wish your brain to work differently cause you might end up turning psycho or something and it makes you who you are and you read as a genuine, laid-back, understanding sort of person. Don't wish to change that =) Thanks for the reply and not virtually slapping me or something ;P

Sorry about the OT comments somehowunbroken *plot cookies for more fic* 8(

I don't mind the OT comments in this case. I'm sorry that this was triggery and wasn't warned for, and I'm glad that talking here was able to help someone, at least a little.

And I'll take all the cookies I can get :)

I wondered if I should warn for it. Hm. I guess I'll add that in.

Glad you liked it, even if I did do bad things to Evan (and not the good kind of bad things).

Sniffles. I cried when I watched Sunday for the first time. Beautifully written, you can feel Carson's emotions and guilt at Evan's loss.

Oh, I still cry when I watch Sunday, every time.

I've written a story where Rodney feels guilty about not fishing with Carson... I figured Carson would feel guilty for talking Evan into it, too. Even though the whole situation is the Ancients' fault. There's a lot of guilt in Atlantis.
