No offense taken, I don't mind you asking. To answer, yes, I *will* stop watching a show if they kill off a main/recurring character without warning. That's why I'm very into reading spoilers for shows I watch, and often don't watch a show until it is off air and canon is closed. I did not watch any SGA until this year, in fact, and was very familiar with Carson's death. I have yet to see that episode, and probably never will.
I don't have to cut the writer any slack because it isn't her fault (that is, she's done nothing wrong to cut her slack for), it's MY hang up, but it is a pretty big issue for me due to my own experiences with loss and grief. So my attitude is more about going our separate ways; she does not want to warn, and that is her right. I *need* warnings for character death, and so it is my right to not read stories by writers who refuse to warn for it. It makes me sad that a good writer (such as somehowunbroken) would rather lose readers than put in a warning, but that is her creative choice. I also wish my brain worked differently so it wouldn't matter, but there you go.
Hope that explains my own situation to you. If you have any further questions/discussion, please feel free to PM me, I don't want to deluge somehowunbroken's journal with OT comments. Thanks!
Thanks for not taking offence :) I like to think that I am a pretty open-minded person but you have made me realise I've got a long way to go. You have opened my mind up a little bit further with this insight so thanks for sharing also when you didn't have to. I have my own understanding with grief and loss so I get where you are coming from. It's not a hang up or anything like that. If it causes you pain and problems in your life I hope that one day you will find peace and may be free of the grief one day. Don't wish your brain to work differently cause you might end up turning psycho or something and it makes you who you are and you read as a genuine, laid-back, understanding sort of person. Don't wish to change that =) Thanks for the reply and not virtually slapping me or something ;P

I don't mind the OT comments in this case. I'm sorry that this was triggery and wasn't warned for, and I'm glad that talking here was able to help someone, at least a little.
