Looked at from a purely objective standpoint, 'love' is a very small thing. What does comfort and appreciation matter in the face of all the raw need in the world? Why should one man and one woman disregard duty and honor in a desperate hope to be together simply because of an emotion? What a ridiculous thing to lay down one's life for--love, something ephemeral, indefinable, fleeting, and even unrequited. Why should a person spend their life seeking something so small, mourning its loss, devoting time and energy in its pursuit and maintenence? In the face of all that is important: food, shelter, clothing, and all that is engaging: entertainment, beauty, wit, lust, and all that seeks to harm: greed, hatred, ignorance, envy, fear, love is a very small thing indeed.
But even the biggest doors swing upon tiny hinges.
