haha oh man i still have the anime stored away on my hard drive and i've rewatched ep 1 like 3 times and never made it past #5 or so... it seems like it gets a lot crazier than i realized! maybe yet another (more patient) revisiting is in order...

Sadly, the anime never gets crazy, it always remains low-budget and unutterably depressing. But the manga, besides having a REALLY different version of the characters (anime Hamel was raised by kindly folk and has always thought of himself as a human and thus is a Good Boy; manga Hamel was essentially raised by wolves and is basically a bastard) has a REALLY different take on life, and it totally off the wall and very rarely serious unless people are being dismembered.

But if you can find the half-hour "movie"/OAV, that's more in the style of the manga, slapstick and rude.

As the person above me said, the anime really isn't all it's cracked up to be. The only thing I really got about it was the music ♥ I wouldn't venture too much effort into it.
