Kanaya moves out of the kitchen, where she has been lurking moping waiting, and points at the surprised sea prince. She has a bowl of water and some rags in her other arm.
Eridan looks similar to an antlerbeast caught in a pair of illuminating devices. He definitely stops, but doesn't necessarily go right away.
"Kan, if you're worried about the blood, Taw can just clean it up. I'm not about to go back outside." His hands place themselves on his hips as he stands defiantly in his place.
Eridan keeps up his resistance, just glaring at her now, his once smile now gone. He didn't need her taking care of his wounds, he could handle them just fine. Just fine, all on his own. He didn't need anyone to look after him then and he definitely didn't need anyone to do it now.
That thought caused a small twinge in his heart to make itself present. But he just shrugs it off as he sighs and rolls his eyes.
"I don't need you to act like my lusus, Kan. I can take care a this myself." Though his resistance is wavering greatly, he's tired and worn from the fight earlier and really just wants to lay down for a bit, but if this persists, he may just give in.
"I know you can, and I'm not trying to replace Seahoofbeast Dad. I just... I just want to help, okay?"
Why is she even bothering? He obviously doesn't want her help, but... but he needs it, dammit, or otherwise he'd just go pass out on his bed and wake up with a bunch of scabs tomorrow, and then bitch profusely when he had to clean dried blood off them. Really, she was doing both of them a favor--except that wasn't the whole story, but she pushed that thought aside so quickly that it barely had time to take shape.
"Just let me get the ones on your face, and then you can go lie down, all right?"
Always talking never listening, it was apparent he didn't want her help and yet here she was glubbing away like it made a fucking difference. It did, but like fuck Eridan was going to admit any of that. So again, rolling of his eyes as he turns and steps back out.
"Fine Kan, fine." What was her deal, she was never this bothersome with him in the veil, quite actually he bothered her more than she ever fussed over him. So what was the deal?
She follows him back onto the porch, and gestures for him to sit down on the front step again. He grudgingly does, and she sits next to him, setting the bowl of water and the rags down next to them.
She carefully soaks two, wrings them out so they won't drip, and hands one to him. "Put that over your lip." She then starts gently dabbing at some of the other cuts and scratches on his face, being careful not to hurt him.
Karkat really did a number on him. She's grateful that she had advance warning of this, or she'd be a lot more upset. Not that she is upset; why would she be upset? Why would this bother her? That was just laughable.
Eridan hisses slightly at the dabbing of his fresh cuts and bruises, but he deals with it. Holding that cloth to his swollen purple lip while watching Kanaya best he could. Why was she so fucking meddlesome all of a sudden. Since they got here, met back up, all she had done was worry and fuss over him it seemed. He didn't get it.
"So, Kan. What was with hawin' this shit preemptiwely ready? It was like you knew I was gonna come home like this or somethin'." Shit was rather suspicious man, so what the hell, fess up Kanaya.
Shit. She hadn't thought about that. Yeah, having a bowl of water and the cloths all ready to go was pretty suspicious, but she'd wanted to get the cuts dealt with before they really had time to scab over, before it got even more painful to clean them.
DAMMIT, why does she care so much all of a sudden? What the hell is going on here?
"Er," she says, taking the cloth away and resoaking it so she has an excuse to look at her hands. "Uh... Karkat... texted me."
Might as well be honest, he'd find out sooner or later anyway.
Eridan's heart flutters when she admits that. If Karkat texted her, maybe... Well, maybe Karkat just said he beat the living mucus out of Eridan and didn't mention the other bits... His brows furrow, if Karkat told her it meant it'd be less of a dramatic impact when he revealed the fact he had claimed the gutterblood as a kismesis. He starts to snarl at the thought, but to Kanaya it could have just been from his injuries.
"Oh? And what did the fuckin' gutterblood say?" Yeah it wasn't like Eridan to really throw Karkat's blood around. Even after finding out about it like everyone else did, he still treated Karkat the same. There was a certain respect he had for him, and that would have just crossed the fucking line.
But now? Saying it was a fucking testament to their hate. So he'd be damned if he wasn't going to throw it around like nobody's business.
"Don't call him a gutterblood," Kanaya corrects automatically, wringing out the cloth again and returning it to an especially stubborn crust of blood near one of Eridan's fins.
"He told me you two got in a fight." She doesn't really see any need to reveal the rest of what Karkat said--she wants to see what Eridan has to say on the matter.
Eridan flinches at that, his fins were so sensitive and that crust of blood needed to stop being so impudent and get itself the fuck away from there. He's sure to not be looking at Kanaya when he speaks.
"You could say that... We definitely got into a fight, is that all he said about it?"
She's trying to be careful, she is, but that blood is really stuck on. It's also a blend of red and purple, and she's surprised at how her heart lurches at that realization.
"That's all he said." Her throat is starting to close up on her now, what the hell is up with that, so she attacks the blood crust a little more vigorously.
Have some hisses and pained noises Kanaya, cuz that was getting pretty sensitive. Despite the fact she was trying to rub his face off, he was a bit shocked Karkat had only mentioned that. Kan and Kar talked about a lot, he knew that. Everyone knew that. But... If he didn't even think it was worth mentioning to her...
That saddens Eridan a great deal, his heart dropping into his stomach as he endured her care taking. It takes a good few moments before speaking again.
"Really? That was all he said?" There was a certain melancholy to his voice, defeatedness really. As much as he wanted to be the first one to brag about his relationship, he couldn't help but feel that maybe what Karkat had said in the heat of their passion might have been just a very, very fake thing. Maybe Karkat had said it to get his hopes up, just so he could later realize the truth so it'd crush him
( ... )
"Oh?" Kanaya does her best to look nonchalant, even though she knows what's coming. She's just glad she finished wiping up the side of his face, because the way his fins just perked up, she's pretty sure she would have poked one if her hand had still been in that area.
She focuses all her attention on a bruise on the side of his neck, very pointedly not looking at his face. There's no blood there, but Eridan doesn't know that.
He winces at the touch to that bruise, damnit Kan watch it! That shit is tender! Kar hits hard for a bein' such a fuckin' short ass! But he doesn't allow it to distract him really. This shit was important man. Really important. So important that everything needed to stop and fucking pay attention cuz goddamnit Eridan Ampora was speaking and there would be no ignoring this shit.
"Oh yes there is Kan, see it wasn't just a fight. Do you honestly think this shit was from a simple ordinary fight? No, no, no."
He turns, looking at her with a devilish grin on his sore swollen features. His fangs allowing themselves to be seen with that smile, his eyebrows lower as well, just emphasizing the expression even more.
"That fight was a full blown caliginous waltz. Kar and I are fuckin' kismesises now."
Kanaya moves out of the kitchen, where she has been lurking moping waiting, and points at the surprised sea prince. She has a bowl of water and some rags in her other arm.
"Back out on the porch. Right now."
