belated, but I've wanted these two to meet! ;; prowallflower March 24 2011, 22:11:00 UTC
[Liam had a Hare's soul and why they were distinctly different from rabbits-- or their stuffed, velveteen counterparts-- he can't help but notice a little girl on her own looking solemn as he's ever felt. Being a grown man, it feels immediately awkward to approach her, but. He works with the police well enough. Should she be let entirely on her own when she appears even younger than Master Oz?]

I'm sorry for eavesdropping, but... I like to believe that they do.

[He keeps his distance-- some feet away-- just in case the appearance of a tall stranger might cause the child further unease.]

Not belated at all! madcuriosity March 24 2011, 22:15:55 UTC
[She jumped slightly at the intrusion of another voice that certainly wasn't Basil's voice. It couldn't be Basil's because Basil couldn't talk, although she was of the opinion he could certain hear and answer in his own ways. But that was neither here nor hare.... there. She turned to face the other, she had never seen this man before but that didn't really mean much. At the response to her question she blinked for a moment and offered a small, if slightly forced, smile.]

It should right? But all I'm ever told is "life isn't fair" so then why would everything turn out all right?

It isn't fair, no, but it's balanced. I suppose that's what I meant. If things are... sour at the moment, later, they should turn out sweet.

[That sounds like analogy Xerxes Break would be more adapt at portraying, but Liam's doing his best here. The last time he coached a girl of this age into a smile, he wasn't much older and it was Sharon who was-- more of a sister than anything.]

In the end, it's all right.

If that's true... then why has it been nothing but sad things lately? [It sounded so horribly pessimistic to say, and Alice wasn't sure she entirely meant it. But still, her brother, D, Cloud, Ezio, Dastan, Sebastian, those were a lot of "sour" moments and certainly not enough sweet ones to balance that.]

[He has no idea what's plagued the poor soul before him, but he knows how it feels to sense the sky crashing down.

What was it with young-yet-prolific blondes having such a hard time of things?]

The unfortunate part is the 'happy' things may very well be happening to someone else, young miss, just as the sad things happen to you.

Oh... It's not... that I would want to take away the happiness of someone else and I don't want others to be stuck feeling unhappy... I just... that certainly doesn't seem balanced to anyone at all.

[She sighed and sat up.]

I know... I really shouldn't be sad. But knowing what I shouldn't be... and doing it don't seem to want to work together.

Ah, that isn't quite what I'd meant.

[So much for helping the girl's mood; he seems to have made the despondency worse. New tactics, perhaps?]

Is it all right for you to be out alone here? Are your parents not...?

I live nearby. And I have Basil here, I'm not alone. [She held up her stuffed rabbit and she smiled.]

[He can't help a small smile as he inspects the rabbit. As a young boy, he was already promised to the Barma house and toys-- well. They'd never had much of a place in his life.]

I see, but-- surely Basil and you both have a guardian? An adult?

Ah yes, Daddy. Monsieur Fauchelevent you might know him. He makes the dreamberries here in Somarium. He didn't make Basil but he would have.

[To Liam's recollection, he hasn't met any man by that name, but Somarium is a very busy place. It's hard to keep track of everything-- yes, even if you are someone as well-kept as Liam Lunettes.]

Does he know you-- and Basil-- are out on your own?

Oh um, he's at work, how would he know?

He doesn't worry about where you are?

[He's never been a father, of course. That wasn't apart of his duties-- having and raising a family. But Liam imagines, if he did have a child, his stress levels would shoot straight up to the Heavens.]

Of course he does. But I have Basil if anything goes wrong. Basil please turn into the dreamberry. [With a soft poof and a puff of smoke, the stuffed rabbit turned into the dreamberry.] And I have many others I can call if something bad goes wrong. Daddy is often worried.

Oh. That is rather helpful of him.

[Hm. He hadn't thought of using the Dreamberry for a solid distress call, but he hasn't been in a position to need to. The device might have more uses than he'd previously assumed of it. At least the girl does seem prepared in case of an emergency.

Still, he's not fond of the idea of her being by herself with or without the fortunate rabbit.]

I should have introduced myself from the start. I'm Liam Lunettes, a servant of the Barma household.

[A short bow.] I'm an associate of the police here.

Oh um... [Alice stood up and offered a curtsy.] I'm Alice, Alice Liddell. How do you do? [It felt a little silly doing introductions when she was a bit sad but it would be rude otherwise.]
