Isabelle didn't generally tend to eavesdrop on people's conversations, particularly with themselves, but she recognised the small girl sitting there chatting unhappily with her rabbit. The run could wait, assuming she could do anything. Of course, it was always worth a shot.
She slowed down from her daily run, easing gradually into a slower jog, and shifted the seraph blade where it hung at her hip to a more comfortable position as she approached the swing. "Hey, are you okay?"
She blinked when she heard a somewhat unfamiliar voice. She turned her head and the woman was not entirely stranger though Alice certainly didn't speak to this woman often.... or... at all really... but she had been kind enough to check up on her. It's why she felt awful when she said the following lie.
Izzy always knew when her brothers were lying to her, or if they simply didn't want her to worry. She could tell now too. But, as with her brothers, she didn't press the topic; if Alice felt like explaining, she would. She threw on a small smile in return, tipping her head to one side.
"You know, I bet there's a lot of people around here who might be worried if you hang around here by yourself."
Alice almost wanted to respond that "they would leave soon anyways" but that wasn't fair to say, nor true. She still had loved ones here. She just... she just didn't want to have to keep pretending she wasn't upset. She didn't want to be told she should be over it, or used to it, or that's the way life works. Who says? Who says life has to work like that? Who decides how life is supposed to be like and that every life is the same?
"Yeah, but to the untrained eye, you're totally talking to yourself. Myy brother's about your age though, so I know all about the loopholes." Isabelle replied, moving to look Basil over appreciatively.
"Isabelle," she reminded, grinning as she took up the now-vacated swing. Slowly pushing herself back and forth with one foot, Izzy thought for a moment. The girl was clearly worried about something - probably someone; while Isabelle knew she couldn't make anything better, maybe she could help shed some light on something. After all, that's what mundies always thought angels could do, if she remembered correctly; that's why they were on stained glass windows and stuff.
"People leaving?" Because honestly, around here? When the world wasn't throwing its worst at them, that was the only real thing anyone had to worry about.
"I don't know what to tell you. My brother left. Twice." And it was still difficult to go through her training without him. Jace was just as good, yes, but it just wasn't the same. "I won't say it doesn't hurt either, because it does."
"And least he's still alive." Isabelle ran her fingers along the chain of the swing, eyes locked firmly forward; she refused to let her expression change from its steely blank.
She slowed down from her daily run, easing gradually into a slower jog, and shifted the seraph blade where it hung at her hip to a more comfortable position as she approached the swing. "Hey, are you okay?"
