[Since having not found a suitable walking partner besides Merlin, Jessamine had decided to take it upon herself to go out on her own. She couldn't always ask the magician to come out with her, now could she?

So that's what she's doing when she comes across a very familiar figure of silver. Her parasol is up to shield herself from the falling leaves, but she immediately lowers it to get a look at the person. It can't be, can it?]

Jem?

[Jem turned fuly to face the approaching female. As soon as his eyes touched her, he recognized Jessamine, a familiar form primly dressed, carrying a parasol. Pale fingers tipped his hat in a proper greeting, and Jem smiled, the expression flavored with relief. Perhaps he wasn't hallucinating. It didn't have the nightmarish feel or sharp imagery and colors of a hallucination]

I was expecting Will would leap out and try to give me a cheap scare. But I'm hapy to be wrong.

[She sniffs, and there's a slight smile on her lips threatening to show. Jessamine curtsies ever so slightly before approaching Jem.]

Of course you are. Will is hardly the person you'd want to encounter in a strange new world first.

[Jem's brows raised at the notion. A strange new world. Well, had Will spoken the same words, he might be inclined to doubt. But Jessamine wasn't in the habit of telling elaborate tales, not anything that would remotely resemble fantasy and adventure. How ungainly for a practical young lady. She had greater concerns, like choosing her gloves with care and giving Charlotte a time of it]

Indeed?

Please enlighten me.

We're apparently in some sort of dream world called Somarium and there is absolutely nothing we can do to leave.

I've been staying with Magnus Bane and other Shadowhunters. You remember him I'm sure.

Magnus Bane? [Jem asked, eyes a little wider with curiosity and surprise. Of all the company to keep, of all the people to encounter, a warlock? Ah, but at least there were other Nephilim. Then this place would not seem so strange]

That's interesting. [Jem replied with a thoughtful hum] And Will? [He had to ask. Jem kept his voice gentle, knowing how she cared for him, namely that she didn't - but for all his faults, Will was still Jem's parabatai, and wherever Will wandered off to, Jem inevitably followed]

Yes. He's apparently from a different time. If the way he dresses is any indication of where the fashion is going, I'm somewhat glad I don't have to deal with it.

[You're right about not liking him. She sniffs again.] Not here. If he were, no dobut he would have been causing havoc already.

[Jem smiled a little. He couldn't really disapprove of Will. As much as he did seem to stir up trouble wherever he went, Jem looked upon this fact almost with fondness. If he were anything less, if he were different or reformed in any way, he wouldn't be Will. And that wouldn't be right]

How did we happen upon this place, then?

We fell asleep at some point back home. [She sighs and shakes the few leaves off of her parasol.]

This never happened when I fell asleep before.

[Jem nodded, some of his previous humor dissipated by the subject. He did often dream strange things, disturbing things, nightmares of the worst sort. But when he woke up, it was always safe within the Institute. It was only in dreams that he felt himself afraid and in true danger. The hallucinations frightened him more than the monsters they faced]

It is very queer. [Jem agreed distractedly] I can't imagine why I would dream my way into a quaint country village. I don't mind London so much.

I don't know why I'd dream to be in this place at all!

I just want to go home.

Heavens. However did you survive it? [Jem teased, his humor fond and harmless, unlike Will's more biting sarcasm and mockery]

[She has a sensor for both of those and she doesn't appreciate it, Jem.]

It's not funny! We should be trying to figure out how to get out of this place and back to London!

[Jem stroked the head of his cane thoughtfully, squinting up at the afternoon sky. So clear, so bright - nothing at all like the foggy gray that settled over London]

That would be a wise course, though perhaps if we were certain of how we got here, leaving would be easier to understand.

[Jem looked down at Jessamine once more. Inclining his chin, he gestured for them to continue their walk while talking]

You said we cannot leave. How do you know that?
