The ronin was still knotting his obi when he shuffled sleepily into a little room largely reserved only for the storage of foods, jars, and tableware, boggling wide-eyed when he saw the wolf - and a white wolf at that - scarfing on a basket of fruit. No; not pure white... there were bold, elegant red markings on its fur almost akin to heroic kabuki facepaint, and over its back hovered a flaming disc like nothing he had ever seen before.

When the animal offered him an equally blank look with soulful eyes, a sense of humbled awe suffused him; and with it exuding a strong albeit graceful aura, he felt that he would be a fool to usher this stray wolf out of his home right away. It wouldn't hurt to share a bit of food with the hungry creature; fruits were inexpensive, after all.

Catching the expression of the young man, Amaterasu gave a longer stare before tilting her head slightly to the side. It would seem that this one could see her, see her for what she truly was. Jaws parted to swipe her tongue over her muzzle, to lick at the fruit juice that managed to get on her fur as she hungrily ate at the basket of fruit. Though there was no need to worry, she would be paying back somehow for eating his food.

Giving a small wag of her tail, she returned to finishing up the basket before it was empty and she nudged her nose in hope that more would appear. Alas, it did not magically restock itself. It could be best described as her having more than one stomach when it came to food. Glancing back to the young male she plopped onto her behind, a whine escaping her as she tilted her head once more.

Goemon could only interpret the wolf’s gesture as one of expecting more food - but it requested more in such a gentle, patient way that it seemed as if it could have been domesticated. While he had found himself a traditional home to live in, or the closest thing to one, it was equipped with the simple, convenient luxuries of electricity and a small refrigerator; and peering into the fridge, he found leftovers from the night before: a few pieces of grilled, skewered fish - a good day's catch at the lake. The ronin retrieved a plate from a cupboard and placed a whole fish (roughly the length of a hand) onto it, but not before sliding the skewer free and tossing it. He could spare to share, much more with a creature that left such a profound, inexplicable impression on him. And meat, after all, was bound to be enjoyed far more by a wolf than fruit.

Ears immediately perk forward, nose twitching as she sniffed at the air and nearly began to drool at the smell of the fish. The tail behind her begins to sway just a bit more, seeming to have no problem with carrying the weapon upon her back- almost as though it wasn't even there, particularly weightless. She steps on closer, tongue lulling out as she then begins to lick at her muzzle. Fruit she can deal with but that right there did of course look a lot more appetizing, she will of course be sure to thank the man for being so kind as to offer some food. That is, once she's eaten.

Ack, I wrongfully assumed she had a different weapon. Sorry about that. ._.; ishikawa_juusan November 4 2010, 03:44:33 UTC
He watched her thoughtfully for a long moment, still puzzling over that large blade she bore with no difficulty whatsoever. The longer he contemplated it, it appeared more and more likely that the weapon belonged to someone, and perhaps this wolf had been trained to be something of an “errand-boy”, only to have gotten distracted by growing hunger along the way.

Never once did he feel the urge to pet her; rather than effusive displays of affection he was fairly unfamiliar with, he offered animals quiet respect, instead. He didn't know her, either.

That's quite alright! It was my fault there, I never exactly stated it. :) soloriens November 4 2010, 05:06:29 UTC
The wolf's eyes continue to watch him, noticing him possibly being distracted by whatever is on his mind. After a moment or two, she finally gets tired waiting and approaches closer to nudge her head against him, a small headbutt as to grasp his attention again as she then lifts her head to stare up at him with a small bark.

So, about that fish?

[Oops again, I thought I typed up that he offered it before he watched her, but I actually didn't. *hangs head* Really sorry.]

And there you have it - Goemon surfaced from his thoughts and took the hint, setting down the plate for her if he hadn't already. The fish is rather plain in that it lacks any sort of delicate sauce, but should be delicious nonetheless.

[S'all good!]

Well Amaterasu isn't picky at the moment, she'll enjoy what she can get. She wags her tail a little faster, licking her fangs and muzzle hungrily before she begins to gobble down at the fish. She's caught bigger fish than this, perhaps she can return the favor by offering to help him catch more. At the moment she's intent on finishing the fish, which she does in a matter of seconds. It does help quell her hunger, a lot more after that basket of fruit too. Her tail wags as she gives one last sloppy lick upon the plate's surface, until she then begins to gather the pouch bag and paw out a single sheet of paper. Once that's done, the brush-like tail dips into some ink before she writes across it in very elegant scripting.

Thank you for the meal, it was very good.

Needless to say, the ronin was both stunned and highly impressed as he observed her dipping her tail into an ink well and scrawl delicate, perfectly legible characters on the piece of paper with practiced ease; if this was something she has been taught, it must have taken many weeks of diligence and discipline on the part of both the owner and the animal. “It was nothing. You are welcome.” He replied, realizing he had addressed her as if she was a human being - and after a thoughtful pause, he padded off into another sparsely furnished room - one largely reserved for meditation and study- only to return with his own brush, paper, ink bottle, and ink stone. With his tools, he settled solemnly into seiza before the wolf, filling his ink stone just slightly before he began to write with all the care acquired through lessons in calligraphy. You are welcome. He glanced upwards as he finished, wondering if she understood.

Watching his expression, the wolf couldn't help but hold her head a little higher and proudly by that matter. She may or may not be huffing a little in all her haughtiness, a wolfish smile upon her muzzle as she caught his reply. Though ears perked forward curiously when he suddenly got up and began to leave the room, causing her to tilt her head and emit a confused sound. Decided on waiting, she looked around the well stature room before the man returned with what appeared to be items of his own to write upon. Could it be he felt bad for talking to her rather than writing back? Or was he testing her? She eyed him as he began to write before peering down at the written word, then she began to write back.

I would like to return the favor, if I may.

“Return the favour?” He mused aloud, hesitating bemusedly at first due to him being unsure of what she had in mind - and then, in realizing that the wolf indeed grasped human language in a way that should have been entirely impossible. Her writing was impeccable. Letting the fact sink in slowly, his sense of logic was ultimately bent out of shape, just as when he had first seen Noctaere in the haunted castle not long ago.

His brush hovered over the page for a moment before he coated the end with ink, his brows knitting together in concentration; the animal’s mere presence made his skin tingle in the slightest way, as if he were standing next to an electric fence; he would have been foolish to ignore it, to consider this wolf just as any other and its curious mastery of the Japanese language a strange, incredible fluke.

I appreciate it - Goemon wrote - But I need nothing. I am sure most others would have done the same.

The man had a kind-heart. Amaterasu stayed in her sitting position, tail curled by her paws as the tip lay by ink bottle and paper as she patiently awaited for his reply. There was moments where she can simply sit still, of course Issun would probably freak out over seeing her like this. That reminded the Wolf Goddess of her slight loneliness over the little tiny man, he kept quite good company by keeping attached to her fur. All she does is give a single ear flick at the voice, black eyes observing the brush then stroking around the surface.

Most others would shoo her out of the house, rather than take patience to feed her. She was of course grateful. The lines of her muzzle make as though she's smiling at him, blinking once as she had bent her neck a little to read words. That was till she traced her tail tip over the surface of her own paper.

I know a way of gathering more and even larger fish, perhaps I can join you the next trip you make.As she finishes, she looks back to him with a proud lift of her head. She had gone fishing ( ... )

Goemon felt a little smile curl the corners of his lips, forgetting for a moment that he was exchanging dialogue with an animal; for all he knew, she was some supernatural being in a wolf’s skin, or simply, some keenly intelligent breed of wolf native to Somarium. And why not? Reminding himself of how strange cards found in Espoir and Somni's streets could turn grown men and women to babies, and how someone like Luffy, seemingly normal by all appearances, could defy physics with his body really helped to put things into perspective.

I must refuse. I enjoy a challenge. However, you are welcome to join me if you wish.

A challenge? Well, it wasn't like the Goddess to back down from something like that. Rather it sounded like it would be fun. A smile seems to play upon her muzzle further, the tail giving a happy sway before the brush tip traces across the material to reveal her next words.

I would be happy to join you then. You have that Dreamberry item as well, I assume? You may call me to reach me the next you decide to take a trip.

Dreamberry? That meant the wolf was as much a foreigner to this world as he was. In place of writing out his response, Goemon merely nodded, trying not to puzzle too much over how the fascinating animal would be able to handle the device with its paws.

He rather liked the peaceful uneventfulness of fishing punctuating by the intermittent thrill of catching something instead of reeling up a boot or a can, if he were lucky; a sure-fire way of catching only large fish naturally would spoil the fun. Perhaps joining him while he sat hours on end at the edge of Lake Meridian wouldn't much entertain the wolf, but the ronin imagined she certainly would not walk away from a helping of fish.

Whether it be for the fish or anything, the wolf does enjoy peace from time to time. So a break by the lake while watching and waiting for fish sounded like it could be the perfect time to relax and perhaps catch up on some sleep. She could also catch some fish for herself to bring to others in a way of repaying them, of course some for herself to snack on as well.

As it goes for her Dreamberry, hers was slightly modified to allow her to work on. It was more of a touch screen addition to it, given a stylus to work and click upon it so she'll probably toy around with it when she has the chance. The wolf Goddess stretched a little, before remembering something to add.

Amaterasu, that is my name.
