At the stroke of midnight, whether they were still living through nightmares in Somarium or fighting against them in Noctaerium, everyone would hear the eerie tolling of a large bell.
With each strike, the darkness seemed to shatter like glass and white light poured through whatever nightmare that haunted each person. The shrieks and cries disappeared, and a strange sense of calm enveloped everything.
In Somarium, the barrier glowed a brilliant spectrum of colors and hummed with life. For those who were still awake, they would witness a strange sight. The floating mountain began to glow with a strange, pulsating light. This would continue for a few more seconds before the light gathered inward and shot up high into the sky. A brief, moment of silence, and then the light washed over the city. Everything that had degraded and rusted over was restored to its previous state. All the grime, dirt, cracks -- everything was repared. In a matter of seconds, the whole city and village was restored. Even the people had changed from their ghost-like state and returned back to normal people. Once finished, the floating mountain dimmed and returned to its natural state. Where the light had come from could be anyone's guess.
In Noctaerium, that same blinding light washed over each and every person still trapped within the nightmareish castle. Everything vanished before their eyes, and soon they were surrounded by white light. A gentle hand reached out, and unknown lips murmured soft words that were only just barely heard. It was a soft voice; delicate and ethereal. It was completely different than the one who greeted them into the castle of nightmares, and perhaps familiar to those who had been living in Somarium for quite some time.
Wake up. You must...wake up.
A flash of warmth, and upon waking, everyone who had been in Noctaerium would find themselves back in their own beds. But that was not all. Whether still awake or asleep, the costumes and the abilities that came with them had disappeared. Outside the NPCs milled about, going about their lives. Decorations were being taken down and they were all laughing and talking about the November harvest.
It was as if that week of Halloween never happened.
But there was still one thing remaining. Back in Espoir, the rabbit fountain radiated in bright light before it dimmed and began to turn. Three times it spun. While the main base remained still, the statue rose with each revolution until it stopped. The flowing water parted just enough to reveal a strange panel with what looked like a single switch at the center of the podium.
The voice from before trickled through their minds, once again just a soft whisper.
Find me...you must...find me...
Silence fell upon Somarium as the first sliver of the moon began to emerge into the night skies. The new moon was over, and the moon's light would once again shine down upon the land.
