Youji's eyes narrowed. Not important; this was not exactly an unknown territory. Infiltration, that was something he could do, and it didn't take him long to isolate a careless, lazy guard. One who would walk away occasionally, just far enough not to be heard, just far enough to turn a corner out of sight, and just careless enough not to hear a practiced assassin sneak up behind him. He even removes his headpiece to brush his hair out of his eyes, and he doesn't notice until Youji's hands are on his neck, pressing, choking him until he falls, blacked out or dead, Youji doesn't really care. He takes the armor, walks back, and sidles up next to Alice's cell. He kneels when the other guards aren't looking, and waits to see if she'll speak to him.
It'll look less suspicious, her speaking to him, than him speaking to her.
He lifted the headpiece, just enough for a clear view of his face, and smiled.
"Ready to get the hell out of here?" he asked, softly, eyes drifting to look over at the lock. Was there anything he could pick it with? Or... for less effort...
"Do you know who has the keys, sweetheart? Can you describe them at all?"
Her eyes widened and she tried to get up quickly to get to the door.
"Y-Youji?" she went to the door but the window was too high for her to look out of it. Alice took several steps back so she could keep seeing the older man. But just as she could see him, he would be able to see her. Muck and grime covered her dress and the black ribbon was stark against her pale neck. A bruise was forming on her cheek but she didn't care. All she cared about was seeing a friendly face.
She couldn't help but feel her eyes burn and water and she wiped at them. At his question she couldn't help but feel useless.
"I-I d-don't know. It was too dark Youji. It's still t-too dark."
"Well, I doubt they would have showed you had you asked, anyway..." Youji said distantly. He was scanning her from head to foot, and he was not pleased... This was some sort of dream, wasn't it? Was this something she thought about often?
If so, golden opportunity here to give her something else to focus on, to banish this thought with...
"Not to worry, sweetheart. Can you tell me anything? Never mind, either way," there was a guard change beginning... perhaps they would exchange keys... "I know a few different ways to get you out of here."
Though he would have preferred her to just wake up...
Ezio didn't expect to be pulled into the dream so suddenly, and while he might be getting use to Somarium's antics, he was still surprised when they happened. Such was the case with this, but apparently he didn't have much time to think on how, or why he had been pulled in. Poor little Alice was stuck and he should do something about it
( ... )
She couldn't see what was going on, the window in the cell door too high for her to see out of it. All that she could rely on was sound and Youji and Ezio were men of silence. Plus with the wind howling she couldn't hear very well. There was a soft mumbling. And she heard the sound of someone else talking and a soft "click-clink-clack," or she at least thought it sounded like someone else.
"Y-Youji? Youji what's going on? I-Is someone there?" Was it another guard? Oh no had someone found them out? "H-Hello?"
so Alice -> Youji -> Ezio? slantedcrossOctober 30 2010, 06:47:37 UTC
"Well, that was certainly easier than I thought it would be," Youji drawled. Hi, gift horse; he's gonna peek into your mouth.
He turned back to the cell, trying to get his face right into the little window, and flashed his best smile.
"It's fine, dear. Someone's brought me the keys; you either have a very good imagination or a very good friend. Can't tell which just yet."
He looked back to Ezio then, smile dropping, as he picked up the keys and made short work of that lock. If Alice knew who this was, Youji would let it go; if she didn't and this was a trick, well, even in his dreams, he never took off his diver's watch.
Works for me. :DbpunchesbardsOctober 30 2010, 07:00:31 UTC
In the dark hall it was unlikely either of them would see the Italian assassin rolling his eyes at the comment. "Easy because you only had to talk to the prisoner." was he teasing even in a situation like this? and to a man he didn't know? Yes, he was, but that didn't mean he wasn't serious. Not in the least.
"Tell her it's Ezio," seeing as he didn't want to risk raising his voice too high and the other man was closer to the girl. "I think she has a little of both," was all he muttered to the latter remark, quirking his brow up and waiting. Ever on the lookout while Youji freed the girl from her cell.
For me as well ^^madcuriosityOctober 30 2010, 08:42:15 UTC
When the door opened she hugged Youji around the waist and hid her face in his hip. Her skin was ice cold. She was trembling from relief and worry, happiness and apprehension, and freedom and fear.
She peeked out and looked at Ezio. She wasn't quite sure who it was but she could somewhat make out a face.
"Well, you'll forgive me, talking to beautiful girls is a specialty of mine," Youji said archly. Keeping the chatter light was appreciated, especially in situations like this. Alice had a name for him, that was good enough.
He brushed her hair back, and the damp cell hadn't done much for her. Cold cheeks, possibly her hands would be worse.
"Ezio, then? Charmed, I'm sure--did you happen to notice a way out while fetching the keys for me?"
Was someone a little bit miffed at losing his chance to play Lancelot? Possibly.
"Alice, do you want to walk, run, or be carried like a princess? Your choice."
"You, too?" he said with a wry little grin, all too pleased with how this 'dream' was playing out so far.
When Alice looked up at him he smiled, kneeling down enough so she could see his face better. "The one and only, piccola principessa, I hope you're alright." he stood again, glancing down the hall a moment and then back to Youji,
"I would say we could try the way I came in, but that seems a bit complicated," dreamwalking and all that. "Perhaps our little Alice knows a way out," or maybe she could just dream a way out, that would be convenient.
She sniffled softly and closed her eyes, trying to warm up as she clung onto Youji. It was so terribly cold. Alice couldn't recall how long she had been in the cell. The days seemed to just endlessly blur together under the cover of rain and wind. But surely she had not been in the cell that long? She prayed she hadn't. She was shaking from a chill running up her spine.
At Ezio's question she bit her lip. There was only one exit from the cells, because it was the same entrance. The courtyard with the chopping block.
"T-The executioner's courtyard.... I-It's the only way out."
It took Youji a good minute or two to both recognize the language Ezio spoke as Italian, and to parse what he'd said.
"As evidenced," he said, kneeling and matching Ezio's wry smile. He tossed aside the armor he'd stolen and wrapped Alice in the long, black coat he'd worn upon arriving in Somarium; it was the only thing he owned that would completely hide the ridiculous costume he'd gotten stuck in. It was near enough to drown a little girl, but layers were warmth, weren't they?
"Supposing the only to go is forward," he said, standing back up and tugging Alice by the hand. "What is it you told me the columbine means? 'Salvation, strength, and wisdom?'" Never mind that it means 'folly' where Youji comes from. "Certainly you don't think any silly executioner is a match for that, especially with Signore's kind assistance."

"Y-Yes?" she whispered. Was she to die now?
