Her brow knitted in confusion and then disbelief. He was Cheshire? No he couldn't be. Cheshire was a cat... then again, Cheshire could stand on his head and not be all there. Perhaps... he could turn into a man? As soon as she thought that, the small saying came into her mind: 'Should ever man and cat combine, it is man that shall be made greater, while the greatness of a cat declines.' But what if it was him? Then she had gone and insulted one of her dear friends!
"Cheshire Puss?" she said blinking, ignoring his question in favor of knowing if it really was Cheshire. "I never knew you could turn into a man Cheshire!" she said as she stepped closer to him. Basil returned to his normal shape since the Dreamberry wasn't being used. She started to walk around him. Curiosity bubbled in her as she tried to figure out if he was truly her Cheshire... (or as much as Cheshire could belong to someone she supposed).
She blinked and tried to think of how she would know it was Cheshire. It sounded like Cheshire. He spoke like Cheshire. He was even cocky like Cheshire! But he didn't look like Cheshire. Or at least, he didn't look like ALL of Cheshire. But if Cheshire was full capable of turning into a man, then she supposed he would look exactly like this. As she continued to circle around him she paused when she saw his tail. Hugging the little stuffed rabbit close she gently touched Cheshire's tail, her curiosity emboldening her. Was it like a real tail? Could he feel her touch? Was he bothered by it? That question she chose to ignore since she didn't like to think he was bothered by it. Did his tail move like Dinah's might have moved? She giggled at the thought of his tail having a bell tied around the middle if it.
'Cheshire Puss'? Well, that was a new one. Normally people stuck to the 'Cheshire Cat' or 'Boris' or 'stupid cat', with hardly a variation except maybe to the last one. But at least his reputation preceeded him! And he doubted he would have to explain the whole 'Cheshire Cat' thing to this girl either. Though her mention of him turning into a man was an interesting one. True, he could wander about as a regular cat or as he was now, but he didn't expect this girl to know that before he said a thing.
So as she started to circle around him, his gaze followed her patiently, with a small grin on his face. Hopefully she wouldn't be like Dee and Dum and end up tugging on his ears and tail. Though as she touched his tail, he resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Kids were too easily amused.
But Boris was kind enough to answer her whims, his tail flicking at the touch before curling its way around her wrist as he turned to face her, "I think you might've ignored my question there. I get that I've got a couple distracting features, but that's not very polite, y'know."
She giggled when his tail wrapped around her waist. She would never be scared of the Cheshire Cat. She moved one hand to wrap around Basil's waist and the other she used to pet Boris' tail. He was still a cat after all. At being told she ignored her question she curtsied. Or would have curtsied if his tail wasn't around her waist. She offered a smile though. Alice didn't feel any fear or worry that Cheshire was apparently a man now. He was a very odd cat so it mad sense he was an equally odd man! And who knew he looked so fetching in pink!
"I beg your pardon Cheshire," she apologized. But surely he would understand that her curiosity was practically boiling over at seeing him as a man! He understood her better than most. Or... well... he understood her as well as he wanted she supposed. Cats were a very mad sort after all! "But if you're here then I can't be lost," she said, quite assured that Cheshire knew where they were. He always seemed to know... it was just a matter of getting him to tell her without a million of riddles that was the trick. "Because you always know where we are," she said as she continued to pet his tail.
"Though I suppose to some degree I am lost, even if you've found me. You see, I don't know where I am, even if you do know. Where are we Cheshire? I've never seen a part of Wonderland look like this! Unless there are giants in Wonderland?" Which was entirely possible considering the mushrooms and cakes could make you so terribly tall.
Now she was speaking his language! She knew him as the Cheshire Cat, not to mention she knew about Wonderland! So it was a fair guess to think that she'd come from his world. But there was something off in that line of thinking, wasn't there? If she came from his world, and knew him as the Cheshire Cat, wouldn't he have known her? True, he wasn't familiar with every person from his world, considering not all of them were role holders but... this girl has a face. Shouldn't she be a role holder? But if that wasn't that case, she could always just be a foreigner like Alice!
... like Alice. The Cheshire Cat tilted his head as he observed this girl for a moment. They kinda dressed the same, although this girl was a lot younger than the Alice he knew and adored. Peraps Alice in the past? ... nope. That would be weird to have them both in the same place. Not to mention this girl was cute, happy, and perky. The Alice that Boris was familiar with was logical, pleasant, and... still pretty cute, but not to this level of happy-go-luckiness. So while he dismissed the thought of some strange turnout that this was Alice when she was younger, he couldn't help but make note of the similarities.
"Where are we? Well we're in a world that isn't Wonderland or Alice's world! They call it Somarium, and it's got something to do with your dreams," he said. He paused before adding, "So if you dream of giants, maybe there will be some! But at the moment, I don't think I've ever met a giant. That might be because they're so tall and I can't see them, so perhaps a giant has met me." Another pause as he thought of something else she said, "So you're lost! Well, we can't have that, can we? I know more than you do because I've been here for some time before you even arrived. That's how things work, right?"
She blinked when he said they weren't in "her" world. Well of course they weren't in England. Not even London had buildings this tall. But thank goodness there weren't any giants. Though even Cheshire admitted that there may be some giants about. How you couldn't see a giant though seemed terribly odd though. How could you not see something so big! Unless.... were giants so big that they could be mistaken for something like mountains and even buildings? Was that possible?
"Well of course this isn't my world Cheshire," she said. "England doesn't look like this! Or... last I checked it didn't, and I was just there seconds ago!" she said. She tapped her lips in thought when she was told that Somarium had to do with her dreams. Wonderland and the Looking Glass had been dreams... was she dreaming again? Well then it was a matter of just waking up! And it made sense Cheshire would be in her dreams since she was so fond of the cat. Well if it was a dream, she didn't see any reason not to enjoy it. One couldn't be hurt in a dream after all.
"Clever cat," she smiled though she rolled her eyes as he explained why he knew things when she didn't. Alice was completely unaware that she wasn't this Cheshire's Alice, and he wasn't her Cheshire. How could she know! She didn't know everything! And what an awful headache that would be! To know everything. Oh how dreadful. Alice would never want to know everything! If she knew everything then there would be no point in doing anything because you not only knew how to do it, but you would know how it would end! If she were to try and read a new book, she couldn't even enjoy it or hate it because she would already know everything about it! Truly a dizzying thing to think about! Even just trying to understand it made her head ache!
"Somarium..." she repeated. "How long have you been her dear puss?" she asked as she continued to pet his tail.
.... wait, by 'Alice' he had meant the Alice he knew. The one who kinda looked like this girl except older, and dressed like this girl and... apparently shared the same name as this girl? He quirked a brow at that thought. He accepted the compliment and quickly answered her question, "I'd say a month or two, give or take a week. There's been a couple moments of it being dull where you think the time is going slower, which it just might be, since time flies when you're having fun but..."
And quickly he stopped himself from going on a tangent again.
"But wait! What's your name?" he asked curiously. She'd knowQn him all this time, but he didn't know her. Now that wasn't a rare case back home, but this wasn't home. And there was the chanc that she was a foreigner, but to be this similair to Alice? That was a really bizarre coincidence. He wasn't sure how much of it he could blame on Somarium and how much he could blame on some unknown force.
"My name is Alice Liddell Cheshire," she said blinking. She was rather sure he knew that though! What a curious mad cat. Was this some sort of riddle? For the life of her she couldn't figure out what sort of riddle this would be. But then again Cheshire was a very clever cat. So he probably had some... very interesting riddle! She continued to pet him and even moved closer since he wasn't disappearing on her. She had never actually been able to stay this close to him before. He was always popping about her somewhere.
"Goodness Cheshire, you act as if you've never met me!" she giggled. Had it been so long that he didn't remember her? But that couldn't be the case because he had found her so quickly!
Alice Liddell? He knew that name! ... but it belonged to his Alice, not this one. Two Alice's with the same name, same style, but different personality? It was... possible, he guessed. Anything could happen. But if there were two Aice's, could there be two Cheshire Cat's too? Not at the same time, he thought. The rules of Wonderland wouldn't allow it. He was so wrapped up inhis thoughts that he didn't notice as Alice moved closer to him.
However her next statement confused him more. Did he meet her before? He might've! Probably before his memories got wiped clean, if he died. So... she met the last Cheshire Cat. All he could do was answer her honestly, "It might be because I haven't! This life's different from the last one, so you can't expect me to remember everything. That's not how the rules work, y'know?" He followed up his statement with a laugh. It sounded like some sort of riddle. Oops.
"What do you mean you've never met me! Of course you've met me! Cheshire we first met in the Duchess's manor and then... oh surely you..." she frowned and put her hands on her hips. "If this is a riddle I'm not at all aware of the answer nor am I fond of it. And I'm not sure by what you mean "rules." Rules to what, exactly?"
She was completely unaware that this Cheshire was not her Cheshire. That she was not his Alice. She was unaware that he even HAD a different Alice and she had a different Cheshire. Alice didn't know there could be duplicates yet different people with the exact same name. And if she had known she wouldn't have been fond of the fact.
