Austria had been practicing his violin in the newly-cleaned (thanks to Hungary) sitting room of his home in Espoir. Though he normally would have been too enthralled in his playing to notice much of anything, the man walking around outside seemed to be rather new here, based on the way he seemed to be staring at most of his surroundings. Recalling when he had arrived, Austria knew that assistance of any sort from any of the people that had been here for some time was much appreciated. So, violin still in hand, Austria made his way to the front door, unlocked it, and stepped outside onto the porch.
"Ah, excuse me," he started, attempting to get the man's attention. "Are you new here?"
Since he had spoken with Kamina about Somarium, he knew that he was probably going to be here for a while and was looking around the village trying to familiarize himself with it. Since he had said that "everywhere was free for all," Frederic believed that also meant housing. He had decided that the city would probably be much too overwhelming a place. This village was surprisingly beautiful in it's own ways, even when comparing it to his "dream
( ... )
"Ah, yes, I am," Austria replied. "Sadly, at the moment, I am rather, well... deprived of a variety of instruments. But that is neither here nor there. Have you received the necessary information about this place yet?"
As he spoke, Austria took in the other man's appearance. Based on the clothing he wore, it seemed as if he was from the same sort of time period Austria himself had been taken from. Something about this person seemed vaguely familiar to Austria, but he could not quite figure out why. After all, he had barely spoken to the man, and had obviously never seen him before now.
"I see... That is unfortunate." Frederic said. If people suddenly appeared here, he would assume their personal items didn't come with them. He was frowning slightly at the thought of not having access to a piano.
"I received a little. I know this is a dream world... Though I don't really know much else about the world besides what I've seen of this village so far." From what Kamina had told him, he assumed that not many people did know either. Then he remembered the second bit of important information he received, but still didn't get. He pulled the Dreamberry out of his pocket again. "And someone tried to explain this... thing. Was there much else I would need to know?"
Austria ran over the information he had received upon arriving here through his head before answering the question.
"No, not to my knowledge," he admitted. "Granted, I do not know that much about Somarium as of yet. What you have been told was basically what I was told upon my arrival, as well."
He paused for a moment, taking in the other man's appearance once more before he spoke again. "Forgive me if this sounds rude, but may I ask your name?" Austria asked.
So it seemed like many people coming here went through the same things Frederic was at the moment. That would explain why when he passed, people seemed to be concerned about what he knew. None of the others knew anything about it upon arriving as well.
"Oh!" He was being horrible about introducing himself today, but still, he had other things on his mind for the most part. "It's Frederic Francois Chopin. It's a pleasure to meet you. May I ask for your name as well?
"Ah... Chopin? As in the Chopin?" Austria asked, a hint of barely containable excitement audible in his voice. Surely it was a coincidence; after all, what were the odds of someone such as Chopin arriving here? Then again... how many people in the world had the same exact name?
"Oh, my apologies. My name is Austria, or you may call me Roderich Edelstein, if you would prefer."
So this man WAS from his own time after all! He was a little surprised by the man's sudden change in demeanor... He didn't really think many people would know of him beyond Paris, and he didn't really see much of a reason for excitement. Also.. "the" Chopin? He had a whole family by that name, but people did often call him by his last name when speaking of his music. Still, were there any other Chopins in his world?
"I suppose I am..." He said, a little worried about how the other man would react.
Then he realized something. Austria... He had never heard of anyone taking on that name before. Austria wasn't a person's name, it was a country. Frederic knew it well because he had passed through there on his way to Paris. It was where he learned about the rebellion in Warsaw.
"I apologize if this is a rude question, but is Austria a nick name?" Frederic asked, remembering how Kamina had given him a new name upon being unable to pronounce his own. "Are you from Austria?"
"That is wonderful! Really, I hadn't expected to encounter many other musicians here, least of all one as notable as yourself. Perhaps once you have settled in, if you do not mind, we should get together at some point and play together. After all, finding a piano or two here should not be that difficult of a task," Austria replied happily. He would certainly have to inform Germany and Miss Hungary of this, and quite possibly Edward, since Edward, too, had a fondness for the piano. This was quite possibly the most, well... excited he had been since Miss Hungary had arrived here, and, in his mind, he certainly had reason to be excited.
"Ah, no, it is not rude at all. I... suppose it might be rather difficult for you to understand, since it has been that way with most other people I have encountered here, but, well... I am Austria. I am the physical embodiment of the nation as a whole. It is a common thing where I am from; all nations are like this," he explained.
"Ah. That would be nice!" Frederic said with a smile. It definitely was a pleasant surprise to find someone else who appreciated music here. Despite the confusing setup, this world wasn't looking like such a bad place so far. It was also good to know that he would still be able to find a piano here as well, especially since there were so many new things be could use as inspiration for his pieces here.
"Is that so?" he said, trying to wrap his mind around the concept of a nation being a person. Perhaps this meant that he wasn't from the same world after all? There were no people who embodied nations in his world that he knew of. He found himself wondering if there was an embodiment of Poland as well, and what that person would be like. He had written many songs inspired by his own country, but he had never even thought of trying to place the characteristics of it upon a person.
"Ah, before I forget, I am fairly certain that an acquaintance of mine here is planning on hosting a concert of sorts here. We would certainly be honored if you would be willing to play for us." Because really, Austria had heard Chopin play before back when Chopin was alive in his time, and he quite enjoyed it. He still some fondness for a great deal of Chopin's piano works, after all, and did play them quite often.
"Yes. I am aware of how bizarre it must seem, but I can assure you I am speaking the truth. There are others here; Germany and Miss Hungary would be glad to speak with you, I am sure. Unfortunately, Prussia is here, as well; I would advise you to take care to avoid him. Prussia is a rather disagreeable person, after all." Hopefully Chopin would not ask about Poland, since Austria was not quite certain how he would describe Poland to someone such as Chopin. Poland was an interesting person, to say the least, after all.
Frederic had to think about it for a moment. Despite loving to play the piano, he had never really enjoyed playing in front of many people. He much preferred playing for small groups of close friends... However this wasn't for profit. It could be a very enjoyable experience. "Why not?"
"It is a bit bizarre, but then again, I've seen many bizarre things already." Frederic said. Mentally, he was focusing more on what he had seen in his previous dream more then right now. He made a mental note regarding Prussia. Austria seemed pretty agreeable, so he would be cautious if he ever met him. "Would you prefer me to call you "Austria" then?"
"Wonderful! I will certainly look forward to it," he replied cheerfully. It had been some time since Austria last heard a skilled musician perform.
"Yes, there are quite a few rather bizarre things here," Austria agreed. "You may call me whichever name you wish, Chopin. Whichever name you are more comfortable with will be fine with me." He was far used to being called Austria, since that was what he was known as at home, but he truly did not mind being addressed by his human name.
