Hatori arrived promptly. This was hardly a surprise though since he always arrived at places early or right on time. Being late simply wasn't like him. He disliked keeping people waiting on him. Part of that came from his childhood when his father would punish him for being the slightest bit late to anything.
Tonight he was dressed in one of his better suits. Really that was all he had so he'd just gone with color. Black this time. Then again since he really only had bland colors in his closet it wasn't like the options were endless.
Politely, he knocked on her door as he glanced at his appearance in the mirror that was in the hallway. Hm. He should get his hair cut soon...
Aya was quick to answer the door when she heard the knock, tucking a loose piece of hair behind her ear as she pulled the door open with a smile.
"Hi! Has it been a good day? I'm ready now-- I just need my shoes." He looked nice. Black was always classy and it complimented his features. With her shoes ready at the door, she slipped them on, picked up her purse and keys from the entry table, and stepped outside to lock the door.
Hatori watched her, stepping back to let her out the door. He waited until she was standing up again before offering her his arm. It was the polite thing to do.
"You look nice," he noted, complimenting her appearance. And he meant it too. She looked good in her outfit and the smile lit up her face. It was a nice thing to see really.
And he was a perfect gentleman, too. Waiting patiently, offering the arm, complimenting her appearance-- and the funny thing was, she'd been mostly teasing in making it sound like a romantic date the other night. She'd just really wanted to spend time with him. Then the agreement was there and in getting ready she'd felt a certain internal pressure to dress up and look nice. And then there he was dressed up too and treating it like a romantic outing. Funny how that had happened. But she couldn't say she was sorry about it, either.
With a flutter of nerves in her stomach (oh dear, she thought, because she recognized that feeling too well), Aya carefully took the offered arm.
"Thank you. So do you-- very sharp." Sure, his bangs were long, but Aya liked it. Although it would be nice to see his eyes more clearly.
"There are several places with good food nearby. What are you in the mood for?"
When having an evening with a lady, it was important to treat her like she was one. Even if it was something that was purely work related or just between friends. Shigure would probably tease him about this but Hatori shoved that thought aside quickly enough. If Aya was as lonely as he suspected she was then he intended to give her his full attention tonight. It was the right thing to do.
"I honestly hadn't thought about it. I rarely ever go out to eat here."
In fact, Hatori was certain he could count the number of times that he had on one hand alone.
"Really? Well then," Aya started with a knowing smile. "This would be a good time to do a little thinking about it. What do you think? Pasta? Soup? Maybe a traditional Japanese dinner?"
"Perhaps a more traditional Japanese dinner." Primarily because he would know what he was eating then. Hatori could probably use a change in his routine a bit but he never seemed to think of that himself. He simply continued on without doing things differently.
Aya had had a feeling he might opt for that; Hatori just seemed the traditional type. And that was fine with her. It was important that there would be something on the menu he'd like.
"There's a restaurant with a large menu and a sushi bar a couple of streets down. It seems very popular. We'll try that one."
Hatori nodded his approval of that. He believed he knew which one she was referring to. Though he tended not to eat out, he did know where things were after visiting patients and trips to the library. Plus the rare times he needed to use the hospital for appointments.
It wasn't a far walk to the restaurant, and after a few minutes of waiting, they'd secured a table and placed orders. Suspecting that Hatori might insist on paying, Aya took care not to order anything expensive.
"Hey, what do you make of this revelation about dreamwalking?"
"It is hard to say. Without more information it seems like a new way to invade privacy. There is also the matter that it could be dangerous. I have decided not to participate in favor of being prepared to attend to the injured."
It seemed the wiser course of action for his specialties. Hatori hadn't even really needed to think on it for long.
"If anything it seems like things might become complicated in this world."
It made sense. Aya hadn't yet decided if she would be attending the training or not. Maybe it would be dangerous, but so could not knowing these things at all.
"That's true... I wonder if my brother is going." Quite possibly he had the same reasoning as Hatori.
Aya felt a surge of guilt. She shouldn't let herself get gloomy-- it probably made Hatori uncomfortable. She looked up and did her best to simply push those other thoughts away.
"It is. Should be promising for the food, huh? I bet it's just as good."
"It very well could be. You made a good selection for a place to eat."
Reaching up, he removed the glasses that he'd put on for reading the menu so he could put them away. There was no point in wearing them currently when he didn't actually need them. For things like reading or driving or anything like that though...it was another matter entirely.
Aya looked down with a smile, but otherwise allowed the compliment to pass without further attention.
"I think I might go. To the dreamwalking lessons, that is. At least one person ought to, in case the information is needed later. I don't mind if it's dangerous."

"The tea is quite good here." It was an intentional subject change but one geared towards trying to bring that smile back.
