It was not just for show that Cesare was exactly on time it was in his nature to be. It did not go unnoticed by him as he knocked on the door at precisely one minute to seven that evening. If something needed to be done he would do it, that was why his father counted on him so much. This was not for his father though. No this was entirely selfish, and Cesare was (dare he admit it to himself) eager to see how this unfolded. There were several purposes for tonight: get a better feel for how Somarium worked, try and understand who the important people were here, what their virtues and follies were, and yes at the end of the night hopefully get Cosette in a bed. Or against a wall or in the tub or anywhere that was convenient really. Cesare was not particularly concerned where it happened, or if it did, though it would be an excellent end to a hopefully successful dinner.
However before he got to his conquest he had to make it through dinner and for that he has brought a bottle of wine, one of the expensive Italian wines he stole a few days ago. Wine was always an appropriate gift. What had not been clear was what to wear. Eventually Cesare had decided on his red Cardinal robes to better continue playing the part. It was Francis of Assisi who said, “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.”
