I don't ride the short bus, I drive it!

HR did their act together and as of July 1 I have my temporary employment.

Basically what this means is that for the past five work days (and the better part of the Fourth of July weekend) my fingernails are dirty as all get out and I get to watch the sunrise over the Rockies every morning. Okay so technically it shines on my back and reflects beautifully on the mountains, but details. Even if I'm up at o'dark thirty my morning drive is worth it.

So far I've learned how to change the oil on a school bus, that the smell of burning vinyl school bus seats is oddly pleasant, and how to drive a shorty school bus. Surprisingly they're actually easy to handle...given that I was just driving it around the bus lot that's constructed for buses anyway, but again, details.

I'm also pleased to report that I haven't encountered any negative treatment/comments/what have you from the mechanics about the snip of a girl playing in the garage. In fact, the guys pretty much go into uncle-mode around me. They give one another a hard time and then they tease me too. It's good.

For the record, I will also forever associate country music with school buses. In high school that's all my bus driver played on the radio. Now, it's all one side of the garage listens to. I've had Billy Currington's "People Are Crazy" stuck in my head since Tuesday.
