Up's and Down's

Well, we had an interesting Saturday.   My daughter sings  with a local Children's Choir and they had a music camp all day at a local hotel and were then performed the National Anthem for our local hockey team at the arena  in Owen Sound.  The kids did a wonderful job and really enjoyed the excitement of going out onto the ice and singing to the crowd.  We then as a group stayed to watch the game.  At the first intermission we decided to leave as it had been a long day, my daughter wast tired and I was suffering from a bout of Sciatica (oh joy)

As we walk down the concrete stairs to the main floor I am behind my daughter carrying her music bag while she has a "slushie" and bag of chips in her hands.  We are about 6 steps from the bottom when she just suddenly slips and goes tumbling down the rest of the stairs, banging her head against the wall and coming to a heap at the bottom....  I had no chance to grab her to stop the fall and just jumped the last few steps to get to her ( which on reflection has done my back no good at all)   She was crying and there was blood in her hair, so I was in that mode of being "Mom" calm while  totally freaking inside.

The arena staff  and first aid personnel were awesome, there almost instantly and very calm and caring in helping us.  My daughter had cut her upper earlobe in hitting the wall, but no other obvious sign of injury apart from what will be some major brusing in a day or so..  So the first aid staff cleaned her up, felt her all over for other bumps & lumps and told me to watch for signs of concussion and we filled in 2 accident report forms and at least 4 other members of staff/management came to talk to me..  The arena staff also bought her a new large slushie and chips once they knew she was okay.  Needless to say I did not sleep much last night, I kept setting the alarm for every hour or so to go in and check on her to make sure she would wake up, but this morning apart from the cut, a headache, aches in her knees & some purple bruises now starting to show she is okay.  That was definitely enough excitement for the weekend.
