Hi everyone. It sure has been a long time since my last post. What to say?
I got back from Kutz four weeks ago this Wednesday. Kutz is a Jewish leadership camp and the second most amazing and transformative place on the planet. The first, of course, is Israel.
I was there for almost a month. During this time I formed an irreversible and intimate bond with my cabin mates. We were the senior guys. We reigned supreme over all of camp. We were Hill 4. The cabins where the underclassmen sleep are called Beitim(bay-teem, plural. The singular is Bayit(bye-eat)). The seniors were put into the Hill cabins. Senior girls were in Hill 5 and senior guys were in Hill 4. In each cabin there is at least one RA(resident advisor). The hills had two each. Of course, Hill 4 had the best RA's in all of camp: God and Chuck Norris.
Bryan Wexler was God. During one of the nightly programs(all of which were designed to inspire self awareness, leadership and personal growth), Bryan played to part of God. So we called him that and it stuck.
Yotam Gonen, the badass Israeli RA. During the first night we had to sit in a circle and, in order, say our name, where we are from and an activity that we enjoy accompanied by a gesture of sorts to go along with the activity. Yotam said that he likes to play soccer and then kicked the air. As we went around the circle someone joked that Yotam like to kick people in the face. Then, someone said that Yotam specifically liked to round-house kick people in the face. Then, we started calling him Chuck. It was beautiful.
I cannot put Kutz into one entry, so I'll try to put it into several entries with the subject as Kutz.
Needless to say, I miss Kutz and everyone that I met there more than anything else on the planet. Iron bands squeeze my insides whenever I think about that wonderful place. I miss it too much, but I am able to continue with my life as a changed person, forever changed by the bitter-sweet, holy experience that I gained in the grounds of heaven.
Unfortunately I had only 5 days to recooperate from the heart-ripped-out-of-chest thing before I had to head back to school. Since then I've become a very successful leader at school. I'm president of the American Sign Language(ASL) Club and I'm the leazon between the administration and a student welcoming program that the school has set up. I'm very proud to say that the leadership training at Kutz is 100% effective.
While I was at Camp mom remodeled my room. It looks like I was volunteered for Trading Spaces. It looks awesome and I love it. I'm going to go now, but I'll upsate later.
