Character(s): Nei'ess,Hardy, anyone who follows him
Content: Nei'ess copes with stress by overworking
Setting: The basement of the library
Warnings: None
The basement was pitch black and damp, eliminating the need for invisibility. The walls had crumbled in places, which lead to the instability the siblings had encountered earlier, though the main supports were intact. The plumbing might yet be salvaged, given time, but Nei'ess could tell that the whole structure could use repair. Perhaps Hex could be convinced to use his powers to fix it. There was no counting on that though. His master seemed rather listless in Ana's absence, a fact which was almost enough to send him to retrieve the sister, but he would not force anyone to do anything unless ordered. And no one seemed to care what he did most times.
The crash earlier had opened up a caved-in room. Nei'ess picked his way through the rubble to reach the leaning stacks, his eyes closed in the darkness and finding his way by magic sight alone. Many of the books had been damaged by the damp and decay, but pieces were readable and, upon experimentation, he was able to repair some with his mending spell. Little flashes of light came from his glowing patterns as he fixed a few books and tried to figure out why they were stored down here.
His answer was buried under a wall, back towards the entrance, but Nei'ess saw it anyway. The small placard declared "Banned Books Room" in a neat font. The books themselves seemed to range from racy novels to handbound research notes. He became systematically organizing it all. Putting his environment in order was a way for Nei'ess to put his mind in order as well and he found solace in that.
