Hex finally stopped running when they were close enough to try and creep up to the fountain. By that time, though, it probably wouldn't help much.
So Hex let Nei'ess off his back and winced as he tried to clean his hands off as best he could; they'd been cut up and rubbed raw again, blood trickling across his palms. Still, after that, he stood tall, looking over the larger open area and subconsciously putting himself in a position to block any wayward attempts at getting to Nei'ess.
"All we have to do is get Ana and go back," he said, tongue thick in his mouth and chest stretched tight with worry; his eyes, though, were sharp, and ready.
