It felt odd to be alone now, though he’d known that it was part of the plan.  Everything at the meeting had felt rather rushed once they had received the reply to Rory’s message.  Tyr hadn’t really even met the latest newcomer, who had been across the room from where he was standing, though he had gathered from the conversation that her name was Ares.  Other than identifying who could do what, everything else seemed to have been set aside in favor of the rescue mission.  It was understandable, since there had been injured involved, but frustrating since it had been rather difficult to get everyone together in the first place, and might prove so again to finish planning.

What he felt was important, though it hadn’t been discussed yet, was securing the building for safe habitation.  Windows and rooftop access would need to be checked and secured in addition to clearing out any  previous native animal inhabitants.  They also had the main entryways to deal with, in addition to the hole in the wall leading to the courtyard and the stream.  The latter would attract more animals, being a source of water, and he planned to do something about that while keeping watch.

Senses tuned to any visitors, Tyr traveled to the second floor.  There he had seen a fairly large wooden table, in pretty good condition, that would serve as a suitable temporary door for the hole to the courtyard.  He had no way of attaching it securely at the moment, but for now it would do to just block the hole from intruders.  Perhaps one of the alchemists, Ana or her brother, could change it into a more proper entryway when they returned.  Using his staff, he easily removed the legs to make a more manageable shape and began to remove it from the room.  Even taking into consideration his greater than average strength, the table was quite thick and large and he was forced to partially drag it down the stairs to the bottom floor.  He brought it through the hole and leaned it up against the outside of the broken wall.  Hair had escaped his ponytail through his efforts and he paused a moment to brush it behind his ears as he looked around.

Seeing the remains of Micas’ cooking fire, and knowing that she, Ana, and Simera would return with food to prepare, gathering firewood would be the next task.  Retrieving the table legs he had removed earlier, and gathering other pieces of broken furniture, he made several trips until quite a pile of wood had been stacked by the courtyard hole.  Leaving the rest inside the building, safe from the elements, he took an armload over to the site and began rebuilding the fire.  Since they would need clean water, at the very least for drinking, he located the pot and set it on the fire to boil.  Estimating that they should return soon, he lingered near the fire, tending to it and watching for their approach.
