Well it has been a while since I've posted ... a lot has been going on on several fronts ... nothing huge engagement-wise though.
Gary and I went to the Bridal Show on September 26th, again with quite a bit of criticism. I don't understand how anyone can criticize a couple who wants to learn as much as they can about their options, approximate costs, etc. Maybe people just aren't accustomed to it, and it seems strange to them. Whatever the reason, it annoys me. My own mother is the worst critic when it comes to this, and it's driving me crazy ... but I digress. We did accomplish what we set out to accomplish, and more ...
1) We know that going to
Canada's Bridal Show the year of the wedding can result in some great discounts. Many vendors will give you a discount if you sign up for their services right there and then.
2) Many DJs and caterers would be open to doing a combined Portuguese and Ukrainian event with enough notice and, in the case of the DJ, would be willing to use music that you provide them.
4) We were able to decide on wedding favors that both of us were happy with:
'Say “I do” in the fight against cancer. Make a difference with the
Canadian Cancer Society’s Wedding Celebration Program.'
Not only will this save us money, we will be giving the money we do spend to a great cause ... I mean, who hasn't been touched by cancer in one way or another? Plus, people won't be getting a pointless trinket that they will never use/don't need.
5) We found a great company (
www.stephita.com) that makes beautiful wedding invitations for a very reasonable price (I was going to make the invitations myself, but decided that I would never be happy with them (oh the joys of being a perfectionist).
6) Free stuff!!!! Yay for free magazines, planners, and even a free frilly pink garter. ;)
In conclusion: it's never too early to go to a wedding show. It's inexpensive and you end up leaving with a better understanding of everything wedding-related. Plus, you get to spend a day with your sweetie ... and what can be better than that?
