two pieces

we wander, we wander
through wheat and grain;
through sprawling fields of open mind.
it seems like wherever we're going,
we just can't quite get there.
maybe the places that we want to go
aren't really destinations.
we follow vague and scrambled road signs,
some turns we leave for chance.
but we press and press on
until we find ourselves somewhere that we never planned.
then we settle down and say,
"this is nice."
and cast away our visions
in favor of what we're left with instead.

I took a ride on a slow train
A heavy train, late ride.
Just to see the other people, other places.
I learned a lot of things that day,
A lot of light on the heavy train.

I found out we’re all broken down
No one’s safe, all have died.
It was a long ride that day, when the world broke,
The pieces much too big to lift
A lot of dark in a well lit room.

The slow train, heavy train
Took me on a long ride
From trouble to trouble
With a stop at heartbreak in between.
and it will again.
