Nation-wide Gay Rights protest

Nov 12, 2008 20:18

Has anybody else heard about this?  (Joe?  I'm thinking of you and your ladies, in particular.)  Protests are being organized across the country in response to the latest round of anti-gay propositions that passed the vote in several states earlier this month--in particular, California's Prop 8.

This Saturday, November 15th, there will be rallies ( Read more... )

Actually, it's kind of interesting that you mention it. From what I understand, there are protests going on in a major city in every single state. I know there is going to be one in New Orleans and another in Shreveport in LA. :) I thought that was kind of cool.

If we weren't going to Renn Faire and stuff, all of my friends and I would totally be hitting the one in NO up. As it is, I know my friend Kelly is heading out there.

♥ Did you hear that it got passed in Connecticut? Now that is cool. :)

Anywho. ♥ I spent the past two hours hanging out with Jimmie in front of Gamestop for the release of the new WoW expansion pack because Aly is a hookerface. :P I'm going to bed now.

Until Connecticut does the same thing we did and put an Amendment on the ballot. It probably won't pass there, though, the North east seems to be rather progressive.

Amendment, Shmendment--it's still in violation of the national Constitution's guarantee of equal rights and fair treatment under the law for all citizens. The Gay lawyers will just have to push it through to the Supreme Court. D:

Lol! Yeah, well, that's what happens when just over half our state votes to amend its constitution, based on lies, fear-mongering, and bigotry. >:/

Haha, sorry I missed this, I've been trying to computer myself less lately. Natalie's at the protest today (and was actually one of the principal 'No on 8' organizers over at Art Center...). I'm not a huge believer in the effectiveness of mass protest in the modern era (not against the people protesting, just a question of strategy), but I'm donating money to the cause even though I'm poor like whoa.

The bad news? Sometimes when it's good versus evil, evil wins. The good news? Prop 8's supporters are disproportionately elderly, and thus dying off -- it's only a matter of time before we ultimately win. And even if it's not marriage, civil unions are nothing to shake a stick at.
