Preview:
New! A close up crop so you can actually see all the details I slaved over. ;D Somethings are lost even at this level (such as the star fleet logo on Jim's pants' button) but at least you can see Spock's face better, which is my favorite part of this pic.
Medium:For this piece, it was drawn in pencil, inked, scanned, printed out on watercolor paper, then painted in watercolor, sepia ink, and copics. Watercolors are one of my favorite mediums because I can paint super fast with it, which believe me, was necessary when I had so many elements to color!
Note2: Now,, I would like to mention a few things I was too rushed to say earlier, such as YAY FOR SEASONAL KS COMMS!
Seriously, so awesome. I am very proud to have been a part of 2 advent and now a valentine one. We need a summer solstice one, amirite?? Thanks so much to Ashley & Amanda for organizing these. I must admit, while the lure of library!sex immediately caught my eye in the prompts list, the fact that Amanda had claimed it for fic sealed the deal! I'm too busy in real life to dedicate as much time to fandoms as I used to (people pay me to be an artist these days, fuck yeah!), but I ADORE those lovely souls who make fandom such a wonderful place to play, and I am delighted to have been able to draw for such a lady.
On a more technical note, for those who are interested, the library was based in part off the Fullerton College Library. Why, you ask?! Well, I was looking for inspiration for the design, and I knew I wanted something on a grand scale that felt traditional enough for us library fiends out there, yet modern enough (and Vulcan influenced enough) to be Starfleet Academy's library. So, I pulled out my set design magazine that featured the new movie, got the name of the church used to film the VSA (SkyRose Chapel), googled the architect ( E. Fay Jones & Maurice Jennings of Pacific Architectual Millwork)
and found information on other buildings they'd done, including the Fullerton College Library. This shit's legit! hahaha
Also, in a bid for sympathy/sharing the lulz, I feel I should inform everybody that I received a nasty gash on my back from this labor of love. X'D In the interest of anatomical accuracy, I was standing on my desk chair and braced against my wall, trying to figure out just how the hell Kirk's body could go in such a position. The chair broke, dumping me on my ass and scraping my back over my closet door handle. Since I was looking in the mirror at the moment, I can tell you my face was hilariously shocked before I even realized what was happening. XDDDD whatever, man. wounds heal, chicks dig scars, and porn art is forever!
