Happy early Halloween! (and Nano!)

Oct 29, 2006 17:59

1. I've been cleaning my room all day, which is AWESOME and long over due. I didn't let myself log on until I was done (for today), but now I'm exhausted. It's so not fair.

2. Nano starts in two days! I admit I'm starting to feel a bit nervous now that it's approaching. Most of my fears were eased last night, however. I went to the local kick-off party and met four other local writers. We read samples of our writing out loud, played lego Star Wars and tested our literature knowledge with trivia questions (with prizes!). We also celebrated with 'happy Nano' cake and did exercises from the Nano guide No Plot? No Problem! When the party started wrapping up and we found out the time (2:30 a.m.), we all laughed hysterically. Hell, I usually leave the bars at 1 a.m. (last call) when I go out! But you get a bunch of writers together, and we stay up half the night without realizing it. Looks like we'll be meeting weekly throughout November, so it will be really nice to have a community of writers to talk to - not just on the Nano boards, but in person too!

3. I'm hurridly trying to do final preparations before Nano, and it's very slow going. I finally cleaned my room today, though it still needs work (it got pretty bad during the month I was sick, and never was fully set up after the move). I'll spend a couple of hours on it tomorrow. I have a couple of posts I've been working on for LJ, too, and hopefully those will go up before Nano. Come Nov. 1, I'm going to try to not let myself log on until I've met the daily word count (1667 words; about 6 pages). Hopefully that will mean that I am really good about completing that quickly when I get home from work, as opposed to meaning that I don't spend much time on my forums. We'll see. I'm also going to try to catch up on my flist before Nano, as I've been falling behind on that too. :(

4. Don't miss cleolinda's halloween music uploads. The master list of zips is here, and descriptions of the individual songs are here and here. My favourites, both by Jonathan Coulton: Skullcrasher Mountain (psychopaths mix) and Re: Your Brains.

5. Supernatural: My favourite part: Dean snubbing Jo. I love Alona Tal and all, but Jo really is a horribly developed character (in that it's so obvious that she is the chosen love-interest for Dean this season; seems she's being forced on viewers and Dean alike). Hopefully when the time comes that they do get together, it will be well-developed and more interesting than what seems now like a boring arranged marriage.
