I wish our kitchen had an island. Oh, not one that you could play shuffleboard on, or anything, just a fairly narrow space with storage for appliances that currently live on the counters.
I've found a mid-century modern buffet that is 36" high, 42" long and 18" deep. I keep thinking it would make a good island, courtesy of this link, which mentions
making an island out of a dresser or a buffet.
I think this mid-century buffet, with a coat of black paint to match our cabinets and some pretty granite tiles on top would do nicely as an island, and it would also keep some folks from bonking their heads on the pot rack.
Has anyone tried this?
