New Home

I made it safely down south and am at least partially moved into the new place. Will be assembling the Ikea furniture tomorrow and then I can finally really unpack (and get all my stuff out of the living room, which I'm sure will be a relief to the new roomie). Haven't actually met the new room mate yet as she had to work all day and is either asleep already or still out. The new place is definitely smaller than the old place, but larger than my Scripps dorms, so I'm still coming out ahead. I have to say, I've liked living in not dorms and will have to adjust back.

The drive down was blessedly uneventful. I made good time and there was light traffic the whole way (even through LA, there was only one tiny bit of traffic, which still counts as "no" traffic where LA is concerned). I made it through one of my books on tape, which ended 10 minutes before I got to Sharon's. Good planning on my part, totally intentional I swear.

Today was spent lugging heaving things around and acting like a kid in a candy store at Ikea. I feel like I have ADD when I go there because I cannot stay focused on the things I'm supposed to be there buying. Since I'm on the fourth floor and you have to park sort of far away from where the elevator is, I opted to shell out a bit extra and have them deliver the stuff to me tomorrow. One round of heavy lifting and car tetris was enough I feel. Hopefully they can find me ok, because I am bound to be shit at giving directions to this place.

I did manage to kill my car battery while we were at Ikea. I accidentally left my lights on. Apparently the thing is tiny and the three hours it took us was too long for the poor little thing. Yay for AAA. The guy came super fast and was really nice. Even brought cold water. I think this counts as one step towards breaking in the car and making it mine. First road side assistance call (and hopefully the last for a long time to come).

After SF, SD is uncomfortably warm. I will eventually get used to that again, but for now I feel like I'm living in a sauna.
