I have a headache

I've been wanting to live in Japan for awhile now and finally got around to some in depth research about how to go about that. I already know about English teaching, but I have NO interest in teaching people anything (in addition I'm bad at explaining things ( Read more... )

I know how you feel about Teaching, I'm the same way. But, I'd say that is probably the best way to get your foot in the door. x0x;;; So unless you marry a Japanese man and have a kid, you'll probably end up having to do it at some point. :( Blows, but if you want it bad enough...

I dunno how old you are, so I'll just ask: do you already have a degree? D:

I'm not sure if I want to live in Japan anymore after getting over my OMGJAPANISAWESOME phase. I think I'll save that decision until I visit a few times and get a feel for it. @_@

Right now my friend (that's trying to go as well) and I are trying to think of other options, but your right, I'll probably have to grin and bear it and teach just to get over there. Although I would still need to take some sort of course over there to help me learn the language. Right now all I can do is introduce myself in Japanese, and the books get a bit confusing.

I'm 24 and have a bachelors. I guess the degree makes it a bit easier to get into teaching if it comes down to that.

I'm not sure how long I want to be there, but I'd like at least two years, and I'm still open to the very small possibility of actually being able marry a Japanese man. After looking more into the culture and the people a few years ago I lost the 'Japan can do no wrong attitude', but it would still be a great experience (hopefully).

One question, how did you learn the Japanese you know? Did you teach yourself with books or take a class?

Really late reply sine I was away all weekend:
Aah, ok. Well, actually having a bachelors will be helpful, because if you want to go over on anything other than student visa, I believe I read that you have to have a bachelors at least. Especially if you're wanting to live there.

I learnt Japanese through 2 years in high school, and a year in college. From there, I just immersed myself in the online boards, trying to read blogs, and so on. I need to take a lot more, though, but there's still a really long way to go in learning. @_@
