Chapter 5
The TARDIS door slammed shut as the angry whirlwind that was Rose stormed out. The Doctor stood next to the console, his mouth open, unsure what to do for best. Out loud he said “Well it could have gone worse I suppose, just have to let her calm down for a while” turning around he stroked the TARDIS control panel thinking, Well it was a pretty good idea of yours to leave the Journal where she could find it, old girl. He smiled as he remembered Rose’s thoughts that came screaming into his mind as he’d been under the grills. She hadn’t even realised she was doing it, but he’d known instantly that she had found the Journal and was having some rather erotic thoughts reading it. Rose had been spending quite a lot of time wandering around alone while he had been busy with repairs, just a quick suggestion to take a trip to the library was all it had taken. She had wanted to know more about Gallifrey he’d pointed out…….
The Doctor closed his eyes and concentrated, reaching out to Rose with his mind. She was too far away for him to actually mindspeak her, but he could at least sense her emotions. Good, he thought, her adrenaline rush was dissipating and her anger was draining away. Probably with the run from the TARDIS to her Mum’s flat. She’d start to process what had happened properly, he was fairly sure she would be back.

Rose ran, her trainers slapping the pavement, she turned a corner and picked up speed and made for the stairwell of the block of flats. Furious thoughts were chaotically whirling through her mind. Anger, shame, embarrassment, frustration all at the same time. Her breath was coming in heaving gasps by now as she took the stairs two at a time. She reached the top and stopped catching her breath, then she leaned back against the wall and closed her eyes, wondering how on earth she was going to salvage anything of this situation. She felt like an idiot for handling it so badly. Should have put the Journal back as soon as I realised what it was she thought, cursing herself for being so damn nosy. Shaking now, she turned the corner and walked on to her mother’s flat, wanting to get inside the one place she knew she could get some comfort. Taking out her keys she let herself in, and hearing her Mum in the kitchen she dropped her bag in the hall and went in.
“Hiya Mum” Rose said, she visibly slumped and burst into tears. “Oh Mum I’ve been a right idiot”
“Rose! What on earth? C’mere, what’s happened?” Jackie rushed over to her daughter, threw her arms around her and pulled her close. She put her hands up to either side of Rose’s face and lifted up her head, wiping away the tears and smoothing her hair away from her face. Rose’s body was heaving with great sobs. “Look at me Rose, what’s happened sweetheart?”
She took Rose by the hand and led her into the living room, settled her down on the sofa and sat next to her. “I’ve been an idiot Mum, the Doctor……. I did something I shouldn’t have……. Then I had a right go at him………. Its all my fault……….. I had to come home” Rose’s tears increased and Jackie pulled her daughter’s head to her chest, she murmured comforting sounds and just held her close and let her sob. Eventually Rose’s sobs subsided, she sat up and wiped her now very red eyes, sniffed and took a deep breath.
“I’m sorry Mum. Oh its all so daft, we had this stupid row and now I’m worried that he will just go off and leave me, maybe it would be better if he did, I dunno. Its just he’d shown me so many possibilities, and now I think I’ve messed it all up”
Jackie listened, she knew her daughter could be a bit fiery at times, but since she’d met the Doctor, Rose’s had changed. She’d grown up so much, as much as she hated to admit it, the Doctor was good for Rose and he was giving her a life that she never could have here in the flat. She also guessed that the Doctor loved Rose too, it wasn’t hard to work out when you saw the way he looked at her. It showed in his eyes and the way his face lit up when he looked at her. Jackie certainly wouldn’t have chosen someone like the Doctor for her daughter, not that she would have ever imagined knowing someone like him, but he was loyal and loved Rose with his very soul. That was enough for her.
“Sweetheart he isn’t going to leave without you, he thinks the world of you, you know that. You both just need a little time to cool off, you’ll work it out. Things like this happen when you are in love, you should have seen me and your dad go at it sometimes, we would be at each others throats. But we always made up in the end, that’s the best part!” Jackie gave Rose a little wink.
“Mum! Too much information, please! Anyway its not like that with the Doctor and me” Rose said, hoping she sounded convincing.
Jackie laughed, “I’m not that daft you know! I know you are sleeping together, it doesn’t take a genius to work that out. Love him do ya?” Rose sighed and sat back on the sofa. “Yeah I love him mum, he’s everything to me. He’s the first thing I think about in the morning and the last thing I think about at night. I can’t imagine life without him, what will I do if he doesn’t want me back?”
“He will, don’t worry. You sound like I did when I met your dad. I never stopped loving him Rose, not once. You’ll sort this out, you just both need a little time to yourselves. Listen stay here tonight, let him know you’re here and then go back and talk in the morning” Jackie stood up and looked down at Rose. Sighing she walked into the kitchen and put the kettle on. Rose followed her and sat down at the table.
“Thanks mum, I’ll stay tonight. I don’t think I could phone him though, I don’t know what to say to him right now. I’ll send him a text instead” Rose got out her phone and texted the Doctor, “staying @ mums, feel bad, plz wait bak 2moro wll tlk l8r soz bout wot I sed luv R xxx” A few seconds later her phone bleeped, “OK” was the reply.
Later that night Rose was laid in bed in her old room. The familiar pinkness of the furnishings comforted her. She pulled her duvet up in front of her and draped one leg over it, with her arms wrapped around the top part, holding it tight against her chest. It didn’t feel enough though, she was missing the familiar soft coolness of the Doctor’s skin against hers and the gentle beating of his hearts as she laid her head on his chest. Unable to sleep, watching the clock as the hours past, she kept replaying the events of the library in her mind. Foolish as she felt for what she had done and how she reacted, she still couldn’t get the words the Doctor had written out of her mind. Making love with the Doctor was the best she had ever known, he had this uncanny ability to know exactly what she wanted and how to fulfil it. She began to picture what he wrote in the Journal, him tying her up, making her do what he wanted, punishing her if she didn’t. Rose shivered and felt the first tingles of excitement grow in her groin.
The sound of her phone ringing brought her out of her reverie. It was the Doctor, Rose’s heart leapt into her mouth.
“Hello Rose”
Unable to work out his mood by the sound of his voice, Rose didn’t know what to say, so she simply said “Hello Doctor”
“You weren’t sleeping” It wasn’t a question, more like a statement. Rose wondered how he knew.
“No, I was thinking about you”
“I know” he replied, nothing else, just that.
“I’m sorry. I’ve been an idiot and I’ve let you down. I shouldn’t have read it and I shouldn’t have shouted at you. It wasn’t your fault.” Rose said
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Yes it does. You trusted me and I let you down.” Rose was sat up cross legged in bed. She tried to keep her voice down so not to disturb her mum.
“I don’t care if you read it, I only care about what you thought when you read it”
“Oh. Well it sort of excited me a little” Rose said, unsure of how to proceed.
“I know”
“How can you know that?” Rose was puzzled now
“You mind-screamed your thoughts to me when you were in the library. I know how turned on you were, and how turned on you are now.”
Rose’s heart was thumping. He knew, she thought, her eyes wide.
“Rose, do you trust me?”
“’Course I do”
“Come back to the TARDIS” he said
“Now? Its 4.30 in the morning” Rose wondered what her Mum would say when she got up and found Rose gone.
“Come back to the TARDIS. Now” With that, the line went dead.
