IC INFORMATION NAME: Sora SERIES: Kingdom Hearts CANON POINT: post-KH2 HISTORY: Sora, the protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series, was born a normal boy, as far as we know. Destiny Islands was his home; it always will be, no matter how much he travels through other worlds. At fifteen years old, he and his best friends, Riku and Kairi, thought up the idea to build a raft and take off, to worlds unknown. Kairi is said to be the real reason Sora thought of other worlds in the first place, since the girl appeared out of nowhere and was washed on shore without any memory. They would build the ship and go--leave behind their pasts, their parents and everyone else for a grand adventure. It, however, didn't go as planned. A large storm hit the islands right before they were supposed to leave. Panicked, Sora ran to the play island where the raft was hooked up. Small, black creatures started to pop up. He had to run--and he did, until he found his best friend standing on one of the adjoining play islands. Riku beckoned him to come along with him, use the power of the darkness to escape their islands. They didn't need a raft, they just needed each other, and this new-found power. Sora didn't know what to do--he was worried about Kairi. Before he could do anything else, Riku was engulfed in darkness, leaving Sora behind. Once Sora found Kairi in their secret place, he tried to reach for her--but instead, it left her heart with his, as well, and she disappeared.
He appeared in Traverse Town soon after, meeting the crew there (Leon, Yuffie, Aerith, Cid and Merlin) as well as his two companions for the trip, Donald and Goofy, who had gone to look for the Key on King Mickey's orders. Sora learned that if he went on that journey with his two new friends, he might meet his old friends along the way. What was wrong with helping a mage and a knight on their journey, and ridding worlds of these small creatures called Heartless? Sora eagerly went on to help, going through worlds and locking the keyhole of each one he could come across. Until, that is, when he went back to Traverse Town and found his best friend--Riku. Riku was alone, without Kairi. It would've been a happy reunion, if Riku hadn't already chosen to side with the darkness. Maleficent, a witch that controlled darkness, had already started to manipulate Riku into fighting against Sora. She convinced him that Sora had replaced Riku and Kairi with his new friends, while it was actually the opposite.
♥ [RESERVE] sora; kingdom hearts. two.naikuApril 24 2009, 21:28:07 UTC
Riku became Sora's enemy, taking control of the darkness and attempting to get to Kairi before he could. Although Sora soon found out that Riku did indeed get to Kairi first, he kept fighting until the end, to get to Riku and somehow convince him that they were really still best friends, and that they could all go home together. Xehanort's Heartless, however, had other plans. In Hollow Bastion, the last real world Sora went to, Riku and Sora fought face to face. With force, Riku took the Keyblade Sora had--with the reasoning that since he was the original Keyblade Master, Sora was just the messenger boy. He completely possessed Riku. With Riku's body, he went through his own plan, to collect all the hearts of the seven Princesses of Heart and go through the final Keyhole, to Kingdom Hearts. To release the final Princess's--Kairi's--heart, Sora had to release his own as well, since her heart slept within him. With the Keyblade from Xehanort's Heartless, he pierced through his chest, releasing both. He turned into a Heartless, and Kairi was revived from her comatose state. Kairi, recognizing Sora even as a Heartless, returns Sora to normal by the use of her light. He goes after Xehanort's Heartless, to the final battleground, but not before Kairi can give him her good-luck charm, telling her to bring it back to her safely.
At the End of the World, Xehanort's Heartless explains what Kingdom Hearts is--ultimate darkness, just like the heart. However, he is proven completely wrong as when Sora argues ("I know now, without a doubt, that Kingdom Hearts is light!") and Kingdom Hearts bursts open--as pure, bright light. Sora, Goofy and Donald all rush to close the door. To Sora's dismay, he can't close it by himself--and that's when he hears Riku, normal, calling out to him ("Don't give up! C'mon, Sora, together we can do it!"). With Riku and King Mickey's help, they're able to close the door--but not before Riku tells Sora to do one last thing: "Take care of her."
Once they disappear from the End of the World, Sora finds himself in practically endless green fields. Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories deals with Castle Oblivion. When Sora enters the castle, he is told that 'to find is to lose and to lose is to find'. A small group of members of Organization XIII (composing of Nobodies that want their hearts back) are in charge, most noticeably Number XI, Marluxia, who is the Lord of Castle Oblivion. With thirteen floors to climb, Sora 'lost' a lot of what he deemed important in his arrival--like the memory of an old childhood friend, Naminé. Sora remembered how he had protected her from a meteor shower, and how she gave him his lucky charm. He had vowed to protect Naminé, and that meant taking her away from the 'bad guys' of the castle that were holding her hostage. 'Bad guys', meaning Marluxia, Larxene and Axel. It was later found out, however, that Naminé wasn't really a true friend of his at all. She was a Nobody, as well, with powers over the memories in Sora's heart. The top members of Castle Oblivion had captured her to make Sora help them overthrow the actual Organization. It backfired, however, as Sora's faux memories held to true feelings. He protected Naminé, and in turn, when Marluxia was defeated, Naminé promised him that she would chain back the true memories in his heart.
♥ [RESERVE] sora; kingdom hearts. three.naikuApril 24 2009, 21:28:52 UTC
The process of chaining memories back together, however, isn't as easy as taking them apart. It took a year for Sora's memories to completely return as they used to be before they were tampered with, in which the real trouble began. Organization XIII was actually throwing it's plan into action, going around worlds and trying to influence major villains to give into the darkness, to become powerful Heartless. If they became powerful Heartless, Kingdom Hearts will be complete that much faster. After a trip to Yen Sid's (King Mickey's former teacher), acquiring a new understanding about their journey and the evil plot of Organization XIII (oh--also, some new clothes, which are very important!), Sora, Donald and Goofy set out to go on their second journey. The worlds they visit are both familiar and new, as new creatures and the plot of Organization XII are unraveled. Sora, however, never loses sight of his real goal--to find King Mickey and Riku, his best friend. Although he does find Mickey in Hollow Bastion, Riku is still lost--until he finds him in the Land of Dragons. In a desperate battle, confrontational on one side and merely defensive on the other, Riku breaks out into a run, afraid to be caught. Sora calls after him in vain. Soon after, however, Sora returns to Twilight Town--to find that Kairi had just ran though! (If 'run through' loosely meant 'kidnapped by Axel', of course.) This is reaffirmed once he revisits Hollow Bastion, and both Saïx and Axel confront him for the second time, alluding to Kairi being in the network of worlds. Now he knows that both Riku and Kairi are out there, somewhere in the worlds, and he has to find them.
The puzzle seems to be near-completed once Sora receives a mystery package in complete blackness. Inside the package, there's a bar of sea-salt ice cream (a Twilight Town staple) and a photo of Hayner, Olette, Pence--and Roxas, his Nobody, all in front of the old mansion Sora came from once he reawakened. They travel to Twilight Town not too soon after, going towards the mansion. With Pence's help, they find a way to get into the virtual Twilight Town--the one that Roxas was a part of and resided in. They find a way out of the program, and into one of the many dark corridors. This one in particular leads to The World That Never Was--but Sora can't ever go from point A to point B without a few complications. Dusks abound start appearing, swarming the corridor. There are too many to fight, and Sora and company are tired before even half of them are finished. Enter Axel--who after a few futile attempts at wiping them out one at a time, unleashes a lethal attack. This ends in him fading away, but not before telling Sora that he had kidnapped Kairi--before Saïx took her. He tells him to go, find her. Sora does, quickly entering The World That Never Was. Not too long into his journey in the Dark City, does Roxas start a battle inside of his mind. Sora wins--proving his worth as Roxas' Other, in Roxas' point of view ("You make a good Other."). Even afterward, he has to fight his way into the Castle That Never Was. Saïx calls to him, saying that Organization XIII doesn't have to manipulate him anymore after he gets further into the castle (not to be confused with Castle Oblivion). As Saïx calls for more Heartless, to help Kingdom Hearts be complete, he hears Kairi calling out to him--but it's short-lived, as he's swarmed by Heartless.
Once he breaks free, he has to fight Xigbar--and after that fight, is when he's reunited with his friends. Kairi runs up to hug him, they hug, and Riku turns to go away. Sora looks over at him, and confronts him verbally as who he looks like, Xehanort's Heartless. Kairi, however, knowing Riku's true identity beneath the exterior image of Xehanort's Heartless, implores that Sora close his eyes and look into Riku's heart. There and then is when he understands who it is--and falls to his knees in relief ("Riku! It's Riku, Riku's here... I looked for you! ... I looked everywhere for you!"). With his friends by his side, Sora sets out and defeats every Organization member still standing--up until the last boss. The Superior; Xemnas.
♥ [RESERVE] sora; kingdom hearts. four.naikuApril 24 2009, 21:29:38 UTC
Although for the first few battles, the group stays together... they're split apart, leaving only Sora and Riku for the absolute last battle against Xemnas. It takes place in a spiraling room of grey and white. Xemnas almost defeats them both, taking Sora into his hold and zapping his energy away from him--which Riku miraculously saves him from. They're holding out until their last moment... Xemnas comes at Sora with his own Aerial Blades. Riku jumps up in front of Sora, deflecting one blade and taking the hit from another one. Offering his Keyblade to Sora, he jumps--and with his friend's power and help, they're able to land the final blow. Xemnas disappears in flashes of grey, black and white.
That, however, isn't the end of the story. Lesser Nobodies show up in his absence, promptly swarming towards the two... before Riku gives up his own energy and extinguishes them all, a la Axel, sans death. Sora helps him up, since he can't stand by himself, and leads him away from the scene. Before they can get very far, a light engulfs them. They appear on a dark beach, barren of any life but the sea. Although Riku reasons that it'd be a perfect place for him to stay, Sora rejects the idea at first. When Riku adds 'we', however, he accepts--the realm of light is safe. Together, they could be the darkness. As they sit on the beach, musing about their friendship, a bottle washes ashore. Riku picks it up, and after scanning over it, knows that it's for Sora.
It's a letter from Kairi, one she had sent much earlier on in the game. After he reads it, Sora looks up--and a door of light opens. Sora knows where it leads already, and outstretches his hand to Riku ("We'll go together."). They step through the door, and rain down from the sky back to their homeworld, to the ocean of Destiny Islands. Sora runs up to shore, followed by Riku, where a safe Kairi is waving. After a hug from Donald and Goofy, he exclaims to her, "We're back.", to which she replies, "Welcome home.". To keep his promise, he takes out her good-luck charm. They clasp hands, the charm between their palms. They're finally home.

PERSONALITY: To say that Sora is 'naive and innocent', although a popular opinion, is a description that isn't too true. His 'innocence' is his incredible sense of optimism. He believes things will work out in the end--he just knows he'll find Kairi and Riku, and there will be a happy ending. The protagonist of Kingdom Hearts is much more gullible than naive--at times, however. His enemies find him hard to fool--his heart seems to see through their plans easily. He's easily excitable (he was practically jumping at finding out Captain Jack was a real pirate) and still has many childhood beliefs (Santa, for example)--like the belief of good guys and bad guys. Sora believes in good and evil. If someone's bad? They're bad--and until they say they're sorry, they're on Sora's bad side. (Not too many people can get on Sora's bad side.) Like any teenage boy, he can become rash and childish in situations, usually followed by some sort of anger. His stubbornness can be a real problem in these cases, but also is good when he stands his ground. His competitive streak is over 9000 is incredibly strong, which usually goes hand in hand with his stubbornness (Phil doesn't think he's good enough to be a true hero? Well, he'll prove it, then!).
When faced with helping others, Sora doesn't wait--he acts. He impulsively says yes, always eager to help. When encountered with traveling to new worlds, Sora usually jumps at the chance. Making new friends, exploring the unknown--what could be better? He could find a new adventure, and new friends to share it alongside with. His impulsiveness isn't always a good thing, though. Jumping into battles and calling out his enemies runs along his childish, impulsive side. On the same hand, he can be extremely sweet. Such an example is his tendency to sacrifice his well-being for someone he met seconds ago, or doesn't even know at all, as he does countless times throughout the games. He is loyal to his friends, almost to a fault. He forgives Riku, his best friend, easier than he does anyone else. Riku, however, was the one that opened the door to darkness, plunging their homeworld into mortal danger. His loyalty doesn't end with only Riku and Kairi--in the second game, Donald and Goofy are on the same level.
Looking back at Kingdom Hearts (the first game), Sora has increased in his maturity. When he first claimed the Keyblade, he didn't understand too much and was clumsy, awkward. Even with a year lost, his entire outlook became much more heroic, and he embraced his position. This could be because of the time that passed, and the end of the first game--Sora realizes that his journey won't end too soon, so he should put more work into being a Keyblade Master. It shows, as he stands taller and gives stern promises to help anyone he comes across in his second journey.
Something interesting that is usually not noted--Sora, probably because Destiny Islands is perceived to be a small place, does not show too much outright respect for the authority littered throughout Kingdom Hearts. He does not bow to Yen Sid (although Donald and Goofy do) or Queen Minnie (as Donald and Goofy also do). It gives the impression that Sora either does not think clearly, or simply does not have a strong sense of authority. Sora is a person who speaks heart-to-heart, not heart-to-status or status-to-status.
♥ [RESERVE] sora; kingdom hearts. six.naikuApril 24 2009, 21:31:35 UTC
WEAPONS/ABILITIES/ETC: Sora, as the Keyblade Master, has a Keyblade as his main weapon. The 'Keyblade' is a special weapon that acts like a sword, but is shaped as a key in it's default form. It unlocks and locks almost anything imaginable--hearts, doors, worlds, etc. As a weapon, it's hard and blunt. It doesn't look like it would do much damage, though it obviously does, especially if it's clipped to another keychain. You see, the Keyblade has many different forms--all given to the blade by a specialized keychain. Sora usually recieves these keychains by locking a world or visiting it for the last time. When he clips a new keychain in place of the default Kingdom Key keychain, it turns into an inspired design from that keychain. It seems that Sora's Keyblade is the only one capable of doing this (as Riku's Keyblade, Way to Dawn, only has one keychain, as well as Roxas' two and King Mickey's one), but there is still insufficient information to support this.
On the other hand, Sora is not just a melee fighter. He has many spells in his arsenal--most that he learned himself or acquired on his journeys. He knows both offensive and healing magics (also known as black and white magic), such as Fire and Cure. He can only do these with his Keyblade present, however, as it's the main holder of his power. Sora has a hidden storage of power--they show up in his second journey, exclusively. They are called Drive Forms. There are four of them; Valor, Wisdom, Master and Final. Valor is achieved when Goofy merges with Sora's power, so he acquires two Keyblades, like his Nobody. Wisdom appears when Donald merges with Sora's power--which makes him shoot magic and skate around on air, as Donald is the mage. Master is achieved once both Donald and Goofy merge into his power--his strength and magic skyrockets. Final, however, is a very special case--Sora harnesses Roxas' power inside of him, and floats as he fights. One underestimated, 'bonus' form, is called Antiform. Sora takes on the appearance of a feral Heartless, moving on hands and feet. He runs faster and can jump higher in this form, but he cannot hold the Keyblade, so he instead uses his claws as a weapon. Antiform only occurs when Sora has overused his drives.
SAMPLES THIRD PERSON: Sora glanced around the streets, a bright smile on his face. The collar that held fast around his neck was a little too tight for his liking, but he figured it'd disappear once he got off of this world. After all, he could live with it for a little bit of exploring! He had missed it over the weeks he had spent at home--exploring different worlds, places, and getting to meet different people... when you were used to doing that for quite a while, like Sora was, it was hard to stop.
Sora had always been an adventurer!
He didn't mind the weird looks he was getting (he did get them a lot, after all).
He did wonder, however, what suddenly happened to shove him into another world. Destiny Islands didn't have any Heartless last time he checked. Maybe it was something from the King? ... maybe that was what the letter was about.
Sora promptly tripped over a chair, as he wasn't watching where he was going. Sprawled out on the street, he tried to push himself up, going through the whole 'I didn't do this and you didn't see it' routine as discreetly as he could. Pushing the chair back onto its four feet, he glanced around quickly with his cheeks somewhat red with embarrassment. ... man.
He really needed Donald and Goofy around. Riku would've let him--nooo. He wouldn't have... he'd at least help him up, at least. Kairi definitely would've alerted him. A frown creased his lips, and he took another probing glance around the city.
... he needed a gummi ship. After one more half-hour, he'd leave. Or try to!
JOURNAL: Oh man.
This is actually kinda cool! I've never seen this kinda world before. It's... not like the Land of Dragons or Hollow Bastion or Twilight Town at all! It's got an old-time feel. Too bad Riku and Kairi can't see this...
... but I've gotta get back. After a little while. After I find a gummi ship!
