Kanda is the first to "greet" Allen Walker. With Mugen branded at the boy's face. Immediately their personalities clashed. Their first mission together was in Italy, to retrieve an Innocence fragment from a doll. Albeit the mission being a success, Kanda specifically noted how much he hates the younger Exorcist for his naive personality. It is here where Kanda explicitly states that he cannot die until he "finds that person". After that mission he is sent to find General Tiedol and protect him, alongside Marie and Daisya, from akuma attacks that are starting to be centered towards the Generals. Kanda's team survives city raids and manage to fend off huge masses of akuma (though Daisya was killed by a Noah before finding the General). Instead of heading back to Headquarters, as ordered, the team travels towards Edo, where the Millennium Earl is grouping the akuma and the Noah members. Kanda's strength rivals that of Level 3 akuma, beasts that the other Exorcists had trouble with. He even challanged a Noah as soon as they joined the battle. With Allen Walker's arrival and a rather explosive attack from the Earl, the Exorcists are left with momentary peace to gather themselves--until Linali is forced inside the Noah's Ark, dragging Allen, Lavi, Krory, Chaoji, and Kanda with her. The Exorcists are left with trying to find a way out before the Ark collapses, only to encounter the Noah Skin Boric in the first room they head into. And Kanda decides to fight against him, obviously. Anything but following the others in a silly charade of tears and honor. He is left to fight the Noah as the others move on. After several grueling moments of being struck by lightning (which he survives) and several attempts to defeat his enemy, his ॐ tattoo growing in size, he manages to kill the Noah. But his healing is limited and he can barely reach the exit before that "room" collapses with him in it. The only heavy price he considers a major loss from that battle was that Mugen, his 'chokuto', was utterly destroyed, though the Innocence fragment remained intact.

Next time he appears, it is when the Ark has been restored and he's carrying the comatose Krory to where the others are. His visit to the infirmary back at HQ is cut short as his wounds healed almost instantly and he's back to his usual hobby of meditation and harassing the Science Department to hurry and rebuild his Innocence weapon. It's while lacking an Innocence weapon of sorts when the Black Order Headquarters are attacked by a Noah and hundreds of akuma in an attempt to get back the Akuma Egg the Exorcists had retrieved from the restored Ark. While there is little Kanda is able to do in his weaponless condition, he takes the noble role of protecting Komui, the Order's Head Supervisor, with nothing but a sword he took from one of the guards. Though he does nothing in being able to defeat the Level 4 that just recently evolved, he lends a helping hand to Allen, alongside Lavi, when the younger Exorcist thrusts an attack towards the akuma. After the akuma threat is disposed of, Kanda is once again thrown into a mission with the young Exorcist, being able to do a little more than just stay on the sidelines this time around. He is capable of dealing with a Level 4 akuma that he and Allen encounter, and despite having difficulties in defeating the enemy, his resolve and will to die for his cause as an Exorcist is stronger than ever, even now.

Shortly after he returns from his latest mission with the moyashi, Kanda pays a visit to the Asian Branch. Not necessarily a social gathering, however, as his intentions rely more on seeing Old Man Zhu to check upon his newly restored Innocence weapon turned katana. It is begrudgingly that he admits (in his sort of annoyed way) that the group of "Third Exorcists" generation bothers him.
